Switch back to the initial Apple ID. If you don’t remember the old password, reset it.

Also, update iPadOS as soon as you regain storage space.

You will need to reset the device (if you can)

What happens when you tap ‘continue anyway’

# tight linden its at max software update

16.5 is not even the newest iOS 16 version. Depending on what your iPad supports, you can either update to 16.7.10, 17.7.5, or 18.3.2. If it says it's up to date with 16.5, you should switch off beta updates.

Do you have access to that phone number?

Ah

Go into Beta Updates and select Off

You seem to have beta updates set up - go into Beta Updates and switch it to Off.

oh

i have no storage

# tight linden no

There’s no proof that the previous Apple ID is yours then. You can’t verify yourself, and you don’t know the password. You will need to factory reset.

ok

i can download now

It doesn’t “stay on the device”. You downloaded software under that Apple ID, which you in turn accepted terms under that ID. If you’re on a different account, you don’t have permission to delete software that was signed off by another account.

if it was a paid app, can i still re download it

torn pewter

No

#

Any free apps, you can just redownload after you reset the iPad using the other Apple ID

Purchases are locked to individual accounts. (Unless you’re in a family iCloud plan)

Any data stored on iCloud by those apps are gone tho

#

Why can't you reset the password?

#

*of the old apple ID

turbid gull

He doesn’t have access to the phone number

tight linden
#

yes

torn pewter
#

Does it have an associated email?

tight linden
#

yes, but i dont have access to the email either

turbid gull
#

Might as well factory reset the device and start over with the new Apple ID so you don’t waste any more time.

#

There’s no way around it.

tight linden
#

does factory reset delete my apps

turbid gull
#

It deletes everything

tight linden
#

oh

#

okay

turbid gull
#

You can export contacts, photos, bookmarks, passwords, etc before you factory reset though.

#

If you don’t have them backed up to your new Apple ID.

torn pewter
#

You could contact Apple Support to attempt to recover the account

#

Like change the password through them

turbid gull
#

^ maybe they can verify you through billing information or something.

ok thank you for the help
