Switch back to the initial Apple ID. If you don’t remember the old password, reset it.
If you don't remember your Apple ID password, you will need to reset it.
Also, update iPadOS as soon as you regain storage space.
i dont have access to the old apple id
its at max software update
Apple will not let you modify software that is downloaded under a different Apple ID. It’s a security feature. There is no way around it
You will need to reset the device (if you can)
What happens when you tap ‘continue anyway’
16.5 is not even the newest iOS 16 version. Depending on what your iPad supports, you can either update to 16.7.10, 17.7.5, or 18.3.2. If it says it's up to date with 16.5, you should switch off beta updates.
sends code to old phone number
Do you have access to that phone number?
it says max software up to date
Screenshot of software update page?
You seem to have beta updates set up - go into Beta Updates and switch it to Off.
There’s no proof that the previous Apple ID is yours then. You can’t verify yourself, and you don’t know the password. You will need to factory reset.
Your iPad won't even try to update with low storage. Update when you can free up storage.
oh, but why does the old apple id stay on the device
i only need to free 200mb
i can do it now
Yeah, you need at least 10-15 GB of free space. You have 200 MB to go. And then update to the latest supported iPadOS version.
It doesn’t “stay on the device”. You downloaded software under that Apple ID, which you in turn accepted terms under that ID. If you’re on a different account, you don’t have permission to delete software that was signed off by another account.
oh
if it was a paid app, can i still re download it
No
Any free apps, you can just redownload after you reset the iPad using the other Apple ID
Purchases are locked to individual accounts. (Unless you’re in a family iCloud plan)
Any data stored on iCloud by those apps are gone tho
Why can't you reset the password?
*of the old apple ID
He doesn’t have access to the phone number
yes
Does it have an associated email?
yes, but i dont have access to the email either
Might as well factory reset the device and start over with the new Apple ID so you don’t waste any more time.
There’s no way around it.
does factory reset delete my apps
It deletes everything
You can export contacts, photos, bookmarks, passwords, etc before you factory reset though.
If you don’t have them backed up to your new Apple ID.
You could contact Apple Support to attempt to recover the account
Like change the password through them
i might try that
^ maybe they can verify you through billing information or something.
ok thank you for the help
