I don’t currently have any payment methods attached to my Apple Account when checking via the App Store and account section in settings. I also do not have any available gift card balance or anything applicable. However, when I try to make an in-app purchase (e.g a subscription etc) it still gives me the option to Double Click side button to pay. What payment method is this using? I have a couple cards attached to my Wallet app, but this should be separate from apple account payment methods, right?

Oh, so it does look like it falls back to Apple Pay. That’s crazy
Apple Support
To buy apps from the App Store, use Apple subscriptions like iCloud+ and Apple Music, or buy other media from Apple, you need an Apple ID and a valid payment method. See what forms of payment are accepted in your country or region.
anyone familiar with that kind of behavior
In your wallet settings do you have your default cards already set ?
My default card is set to my amex credit card yeah
Yes it’s normal though for it to double click to pay cos it’s linked to Apple Pay
Cos when you add cards into your wallet app, Apple Pay creates a different card number for your card so when your paying your using that Apple Pay card (linked to your Amex) to pay
This prevents you from actually using your actual card to pay to prevent fraud so your card details can’t be stolen
got it, i understand that - so just to clarify one more time- my default payment method set in wallet will be used as my app store payment method in this case then, right
Yes that’s correct
cool, thank you!
No problem any further questions?
nope that’s all
