ive had my new mac mini with m4 pro for about a week now and it has worked fine but today i was playing World of warcraft and suddenly weird vertical lines (image 1) appeared on my screen. i shut down the game but i had some weird screen retention left (image 2). i restarted the mac but the retention was still there even after full restart but it has seemed to vanish after some time. i am using a hdmi 2.0 cable connected to my monitor running 2560x1440 at 144hz.

Do you have another monitor you could test it with, or with a TV?
i do have a second monitor im using at the same time. i do not know how to test it now since the lines and retention have vanished and i do not know how to make the issue happen again in a timely manner
Oh, hm. It could either be a graphics issue or something up with the monitor
the lines happened yesterday too but when using usb-c to displayport cable
hm
i had tg pro open and gpu temperatures were only 80 celcius
I would try the other monitor to see if it happens again, if it occurs again, it's a hardware issue with the Mac mini. If not, it could be a issue with the monitor.
im suspecting mac mini issue then. ive been using this monitor for years with my windows pc witohut any issues
Could you try using the windows with it real quick?
See if the monitor is fine on windows?
the lines and retention have vanished now. but they will probgably appear again if i play wow for prolonged amount of time. it happened yesterday too when palying the game
Like Caleb said, give it a try on your Windows PC, see if the lines appear after a while. Just to narrow the issue down
alright
And if it doesn't happen, take the Mac mini back to Apple and they should be able to either replace it or fix it (if possible)
It should be covered under the warrenty of the device
Also playing your game for long periods of time while running 144hz at 1440p could like… be a lot for the gpu
And 80 Celsius isn’t exactly cool, so it could be overheating
ill use the monitor wiht my windwos pc for a while to see if it happens. if not ill do what jared said and contact apple
if someone wanders to this post with the vertical line issue i managed to resolve the weird vertical lines by changing Color profile in Settings-Displays. if this is permanent fix remains to be seen or if it helps with the retention issue aswell.
At least it’s fixed! Happy to hear it
