the M2 would be more up-to-date compared to the M1 but the m1 is not that bad behind and will still be supported for a good while. So If you want the latest and greatest without breaking the bank on an M3, the M2 would be an option, but if you want a decent macbook without breaking the bank, the m1 is best for you. The only difference between the m1 and the m2 is the processor is more powerful on the m2 in comparison to the m1, the m1 is a good entry model if you are new to the mac and want a decent system. I currently have an M1 Mac mini (the mini desktop tower) and It works GREAT for roblox and chatting on Discord and all of the daily activities I do, I have no reason to upgrade to the m2 or even the m3. So if you want just a basic level macbook and dont need to do VERY POWERFUL tasks, M1 is perfect i feel.
