Hey, I really want to upgrade my MacBook Pro. I use my laptop for my studies and work. I do a lot with the Adobe programs and often I have several apps open during homework or work, for example. I am first of all in doubt whether I want a MacBook Air or Pro, I hear many different things. Some say Air is made more for normal use and the Pro more for Adobe and others say the Air is enough for Adobe.

I have the exact same Mac you have right down to the clock speed, I know how slow it can be to use at times
Do you have a budget?
Yep, my laptop also has a lot of overheating problems and the fan then makes a lot of noise. I think my budget is around 2300 euros, may vary a bit but definitely not too much.
I can totally relate lol
That’s a really open budget, shoot for an M3 Pro
You could even consider getting an M3 Pro MBP if you feel your work is taxing enough
oh I got the wrong currency hang on
There we go @torn bane
Is 16GB memory enough?
Depends on your workload, but 16 GB should be fine for day to day tasks.
i’d get 32
For programs like, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro etc.?
For things like that, I would probably get more, so anywhere from 24 or above should be fine.
Is this going to be good enough?
yep
will be a big difference from your previous mac
Yes, it should.
I’d upgrade the RAM
I selected this:
Apple M3 chip with 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
24GB unified memory
512GB SSD storage
Ah nice. That should be perfect for you.
By the way, I like your profile pic 😄
Thanks!!
Yep!
Haha thanks, it's my dog😁
Awesome 👏🏼, what’s its name?
Youri
Very unique name! 😁
It's common here in the Netherlands
Ah gotcha. Where I live, I’ve never heard of that name
You can also spell it like: Joeri
Oh nice!
If we’ve come to a solution, I’ll make the thread resolved to avoid further off-topic discussion
Are you all decided @torn bane ?
Yes, I think I’m gonna buy it this weekend in the Apple Store
Cool! Then post can be tagged as decided
I discussed it with my father, and he says is it gonna be really nessecary to get the 24GB RAM? Are you able to use the 16GB and is it still gonna be fine?
hm
What do you recommend?
what adobe programs are you using?
I wouldn't do anything lower than 16GB of RAM
Adobe applications are heavy on the RAM usage
Oh okay, but I wanna be safe so 16GB would be fine?
Yes I developed websites or design stuff
I’m not a 100% sure if I should get the 24GB, if the 16GB is still okay for this type of stuff
But thank you for the advice
I hope more than my current mac, so that’s about 4 years
The 16GB of RAM should be fine, I just wouldn't get anything lower. If you feel you may exceed it in the future, bumping it up to 24GB of RAM may be a good idea.
Especially if your gonna keep it for a long time.
Okay thanks!!
Yep!
Going to buy this: https://www.apple.com/nl/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/14‑inch-spacezwart-apple-m3-pro-met-11-core-cpu-en-14-core-gpu-18-gb-geheugen-512gb
