What do you mean by managing Accounts?
I'm only in year 11 but that was the one I used until it started to die and my parents got me a new one for school
Maybe the task could be moved over to the new one?
Perhaps if I get a new phone (I have a se atm) it could be used for managing the apple accounts
I’m sure between the new laptop and the phone you could move the task over, but I’m kind of not understanding what you mean by this
I'm just wondering if it is safe to turn the laptop on even for a short while
It doesn’t sound very reliable
The fact it overheats makes me question if the thermal paste has become ineffective and/or it has dust build-up.
Yeh and it's old af and is basically dying slowly
It's common for older computers to need re-pasting.
The thermal paste turns into a dust, essentially.
Out of curiosity, what year of a laptop is it?
It's old but it isn't ancient. How comfortable are you with taking things apart?
And how much do you care about this computer?
Not really but my dad and I took a microwave apart when I was younger
Not at all, we are only keeping it for managing the apple accounts
Well, to be fair a microwave and a laptop are two very different things
True
Might want to open the back of it and dust/clean it as best you can. If your dad is savvy you could try re-applying thermal paste to see if it helps with overheating. Is it a macbook pro?
That’ll be harder to get into
Yeah, Air for sure.
Yeah, sell it for parts
That would be repair shop territory.
Once you move the tasks over
But if its not that important, do as Aus suggests.
Yep, and I'll talk with my dad about getting me a new phone and then we can use my current one to manage the accounts
Someone will probably buy that from you and do a bunch of tear-down to fix it up, re-sell or use it themselves. Always good to put something back into the economy vs. becoming eWaste.
I kinda want to pull it apart ngl
Hey, if its not important if you break it and want to learn something, look up some guides and go to town!

np, hope it works out.
thanks
