I have a pixel 4 that I had bought used less than a month ago, and it appeared to have some issues where it would restart randomly when the battery drops and I use something like the flashlight or speakers on it. Earlier today, the phone went into a bootloop and became noticeably hot, I cooled it down by pouring water on the back and dried it instantly after, the bootloop didn't stop, so I plugged it in and pressed the power button repeatedly which stopped the bootloop. An hour after the phone had turned on face unlock sensors stopped working, and I attempted a couple of solutions (e.g. opening in safe mode, removing face data) and nothing worked, it only worked to unlock my face initially once which seemed a bit random. Anyhow, a bit after I decided to charge it and see what happens, right as it reached 100%, I unplug the phone and it dies. I assume it is bricked since I have attempted many many solutions online as well, it doesn't receive calls, doesn't open up using the (volume down + power button) combination, nothing seems to work.
#well uh- my Pixel 4 just died

Poor Moe
I'm literally at an all time low rn I spent all I had on this phone lol
if someone could get papa's attention to this I think he'd know what I can do
@wooden violet If your up for it later we can hop in VC and I can try and help you
sure when are you available?
Is 12PM CST good for you
yeah this sounds great, just ping me by that time I'll be there
Alrighty
so uh, more bad news, I took it to someone and he said it might've been short circuited since the phone has been opened previously (and yes I did get water on it since I didn't know the phone was opened before) so it might have water damage
@fossil fern I'll take it to another one tomorrow who's like into working on pixels and shit, if there's no hope I'll just sell it for replacement parts and execute plan B i guess
Alright I'll let u know what comes next
First thing I wouldn’t do is to pour water over the back, even if it’s “water resistant”, because you never know, especially since it’s a used phone? The glue might not have been as strong as it may have been when it was new.
If all else fails, maybe back up your data and factory reset it. You never know
Ow ok i didn’t read this
well the phone doesn't even turn on
I can't open it in fastboot mode even
but yah I made a multitude of dumb mistakes here let's not talk about it
honestly feeling bad rn
Yeah it sounds real bad
YES at least someone now knows how shitty I feel, I legit worked real hard and was underpaid to get this phone, and it just dies in two weeks like yikes man
Do you have a backup phone?
well yes, but it's also a samsung galaxy j1 mini prime
so it's more of a pain in the ass than a phone
bro i can honestly feel you. still here with my 7 plus refurbished from 2017
yeah fr
I'll be going on my final trip to a technician 2.5 hours away today, if there's no hope, I'll see if I can get a 4a 5G or 4a, I'll aim for the 4a 5G only for the better processor since I'll be downgrading big time from my 4
I wish you luck man
thanks
update: the issue is an internal storage related thing and replacing it would be a bit costy, also there's high probability that face unlock will just not work at all and it's not fixable somehow, he needs to fix the storage first to see if the face unlock sensors are working or not
Wow thats weird
Are you going to repair it?
I'm thinkin
if I can't find a way to sell it as parts or get another one and pay the difference then I'll have to repair it and hope for the best
in an hour or so, I'll call the technician up giving him the go to start replacing the storage unit and fix my phone, if all goes well I should have it back in less than a week
I don't expect to have face unlock work after this, and I don't expect the phone to be great or anything, I just want something to daily drive for the next year
so let's hope that ends up being the case
phone's still at the repair shop
it's been almost 3 weeks since I gave it to the guy, hopefully I'll hear from him soon tho
:(
nearly final update: I called him up today, since he's so damn late it's crazy, the phone lives on!! He told me it turned on but it's stuck on the Google logo so he'll need some time to get it up and running. This guy's really slow it's getting on my nerve but the best I can do is wait patiently ig.
Wow really nice that he got it to (almost) work!
yeah I'm glad the phone still has life in it tbh
update: this story don't seem to wanna come to an end, so it turns out the phone gets stuck on the google logo because (and I quote) "there's a cut in the speaker module that short circuits the whole thing when we try to turn it on, so now that needs replacement" SO it appears they either fucked it up or the guy worded this incorrectly because the speaker was working beyond fine when I gave him the phone so like ?!?!??!? But anyway the phone actually turned on when he unplugged the speaker so ig we're getting there in a way
it only started when they unplugged the speakers
that's how they knew it was the source of trouble
oh okay, makes sense
Speaker may work from an audio standpoint, but as it seems, certainly not from an electrical standpoint
well the waiting continues
Update: it turns out the speaker module's connection has been damaged before by "someone" and they fixed it by soldering it back!?! so that didn't last long and that's why it shorted my circuit board, anyway time passes and I GO OUT OF MY WAY TO FIND A REPLACEMENT PART BECAUSE THE DUDE wasn't finding any, but right as I do the mf I'm in contact with catches covid and now is at home, Idek what to say anymore
💀bleh
Life fucking with us moment…
roiiiighttt??
yea
still waiting for the guy to recover from covid to fix it
hmm
eventually will happen yknow 💀
dman man
At this point just get the phone from him and take it to someone else
can't really because it was a pain finding him in the first place, nobody here knows how to work with pixel phones
Oh
yea sadly I don't live in 'murica
Wow that really sucks
It will happen eventually…
This is gonna be a long and complicated update lol, so it turns out the damaged connection was a secondary one that didn't matter, and the phone could've been turned on easy peasy, now yesterday I went to get a replacement part nonetheless and went to the guy not knowing this was the case, apparently after wasting a whole fucking day, the phone is back in business! I'm using it to type this message right now! But the story doesn't end.. the phone's audio ic is apparently what's damaged? The guy doesn't know and he can't figure it out, now the phone has no ability to play audio at ALL, not even through Bluetooth headphones, also no mic is functional, doesn't even playback videos because they have audio, can anyone gimme a hand w this shit? Any idea on what might be the issue here?
Side note I didn't pay the technician because he obviously didn't fix my phone, so idrk wtf to do at this point
Also the phone's vibrations don't work at all as well
Half the phone's experience is gone bruh, I can't even put my sim in it I wouldn't be able to take phone calls
Why don’t you take it to another technician who’s experienced with pixels?
These are near impossible to find
That one is the only one I could find at the time
Another alleged one is telling me that the ic for audio on the motherboard is fried and there's no restoring without a new motherboard which would cost as much as the phone itseof
Itself
I just feel stuck
And face unlock doesn't work as predicted
if I were to get the equivalent iPhone I'd have to pay 3times the price I paid for the pixel and it'd also be used
also I don't plant money on trees, I'm actually running super low on it and idk what to do at this point, mostly why I feel stuck
I've poured so much money into this experience it gets kinda sad
It’s about time you get a 14 pro max
no
technically no
if he really wants another smartphone...you better get a simialr andriod for affordable price moe...I don't think switching to a new fucking device is worthit cause it is waste of money mainly when you are tight with budget
Upgrade to Samsung s23+ Ultra
no
when there is a tight budget
it useless to spend too much money on new upgrades
I barely got to buy a pixel 4 so
mhm
Get a referbised pixel 4
Maybe try to get a cheap iPhone
Or just another pixel 4
nah these would be just trash, like I moved from an iPhone 6s, a cheap iPhone would be the 6s
let's lay some ground rules here so I won't keep re-explaining my situation.
one, I barely have any money to get a NEW or even USED phone, even the pixel 4 I have I cannot afford again, even if I sold it as replacement parts. I spent 99% of the money I had to get the phone in the first place and on other technical upgrades I needed
two, I live in a country where there's no way of shipping things here from Google/Apple or any company except for maybe samsung and a couple others without paying 100+$ in shipping only excluding taxes, which I will not be doing, there are no certified Google technicians here because Google doesn't sell it's products here, only software services, the way I got my phone was second hand from someone who had imported it.
which is trash compared to the pixel 4, also I gave it to my younger brother so I cannot take it back (at least I can't get myself to break his heart and take his "new" phone from him lol)
Get a pixel 3
I already have the 4? I think I'm better off somehow fixing this one
The 3XL wasn't that great, and I'd kill for 90Hz
Keep the 4 then? 😒
that's what I'm doing? bruh I thought people on here would be a tiny bit creative
maybe someone would recommend something actually useful lol, I'm just being trolled here
I had iPhone for 2+ month I’m experienced
