I should be getting Giants but after I went through the first portal they never came back. I keep upgrading the giant thing after ascension, but I never get them. I also don't get rubies or the big wasps even though I should. Please take a look at it.

Did you get the Ruby upgrade in the Ascension tree or the coin upgrade?
If you Ascended after picking up the latter, you have to buy it again.

Thank you, I figured it out! I miss -understood. Apparently the gigantic you're supposed to get buy paying for them with coins, and the rubies are an abstention upgrade. I think I read a misleading reddit thread!
