First i wanted to go for fine arts because yeah love paintinh
But after talking with a friend that took fine arts in RISD, they said its better if i take animation because yk my art is anime esque style and its practical
But honestly i really find animating to be painful
I couldn't draw fast enough and always focus on details
And i enjoy doing potrait

Honestly after my current style i really feel like im.unfitting for animation
i mean, obviously if you do not enjoy animation then absolutely do not go into an animation program, youll hate it
it could be worth thinking about what you want to do in the future, do you want to be a painter with your work in galleries, do you want to be an illustrator who does book covers or advertisements, i could go on and list stuff but basically think about what type of job youd be happy doing for a while, of course that can change so a program that can allow for flexibility is also nice
just make sure you go with something you really enjoy doing and/or are very willing to learn!
OKAY NOW IM BACK WITH MORE ART SCHOOL VENT
Will the Institute prefer an artist with personal branding but master of one or jack of all trades but no personal branding?
Im just really insecure because in the latter and i see my art is different each time
I want to be able to do everything, my style follows almost no same theme except if i make them to
I just do what i like
Here comes the time to do portfolio for my art
I decided to go with oil painting department
and i have 2 solid idea
I will do 1 western style painting and 1 eastern style painting
But again im just afraid they will see almost not similar pieces in same portfolio
schools want skill and potential, just put your top best works (INCLUDE SKETCHES!!) regardless of style. some art programs are extremely competitive with low acceptance rate, obviously those will have higher standards (not necessarily with style, since flexibility is good, again its mainly about skill). so perhaps check out the program's acceptance rate to see if this is even something to worry too much about
though just a small point, many western art schools in general will prefer modern western/classical western styles as opposed to eastern (anime), that's more personal bias against a specific style of the teachers/portfolio reviewers rather than them disliking a person being flexible in their style. so that could perhaps be something to keep in mind
Art school i want is in east :3 also its really hard to check the acceptance percentage because its different for international students i suppose 😭 also thank u!
