1 - Heroes and Builds

Must have : Serratica, Axe Punisher , Cold Heir, Sword Sage (if no Red Mirror keepsake and not enough piercing dmg stat on gears)

Good options : Bell Elk, Stella Caster, Malefica, Cyclonica, Dynamica, Cosmo, Boreal Fox

Build :
T_Bloodlust T_Empower on every hero, then Zero In (square Insignia) on non dmg ignoring heroes (Sword Sage doesn't really need it so skip him if you don't have enough). Then build them defensively for the rest. I_ChaosArmor / I_LawfulShield , I_AncientInsight , E_HolyConviction , E_Exploding_Shield .
Some cc doesn't hurt so I_Fairy_Dance , E_SpectersInstinct are good too. I_Dragon_Blood is best in slot if you have some.
For pets, aoe, survivability and cc are best, as well as time controller for skill cd.

As gear, Gemini, skill cd, atk speed, survivability are all good pics depending on what you need.

Your heroes need T_Bloodlust to deal with the axe punishers, T_Empower to cast their skill that focuses multiple enemies for a long period of time or aoe. And durability to cast said skills. (The axe punishers appear in the latter levels, wich should be your only concern since the previous levels should be a joke with the f2p friendly must have heroes and )

2 - Base design

Your troops should be the barbarians, all hired to the maximum capacity, with them not being clustered together to avoid getting aoe splashed. Your heroes should be as spread out as possible to cover as much space as possible and the enemy hero spawns. Magic Towers with stun as a perk is usefull.

Your hero totems should be on the extremities as well with aoe dmg heroes (lazulix, boreal fox).

3 - Doing it

With time, and trying, and a lot of luck, you should be able to finish HBM waves 34 and 35, though it may take dozens of trials to finish and even more if you want a good time.

I will spare you and myself the boring HBM gameplay, since it's annoying to clip a wave 35-5 victory (rng needed) and to make that victory screen even sweeter.
