Designers primarily work on:
- Game rules, mechanics, game features, core game design loop
Concept artists primarily work on:
- Primarily work on; based on visual references create visual concepts of what a location or character + equipment might look like
Texture artists
- Primarily work on textures/materials
3D artists/modelers primarily work on:
- Primarily realizes the work of concept artists and designers by crafting modular pieces (sometimes via photogrammetry) ranging from props to full models
Level designers primarily work on:
- Taking pieces/blocks and building locations and making sure they work from several perspectives (narrative, pacing, tactics, etc.)
Environment artists primarily work on:
- Making sure the game world visuals /environment/aesthetics are consistent and fit the core design
Animators primarily work on:
- Primarily creates all the animations
Gameplay Programmer:
- Primarily works on realizing the designer rules/elements through programming
Development Operator (DevOps)
- Primarily works on the architecture in the background, almost always back-end loops and systems that handle mechanics such as matchmaking/configuration systems
All of the above, including not mentioned roles are "Game Developers", e.g. all of them contribute to the games' development.
Then there are many other roles in game development, some of them are handled by one person.
