So I've been struggling to set ALVR up for about 2 hours now and haven't gotten anywhere.
I started out with Native Steam, downloading the Tar.Gz 20.12.0 version of the ALVR Streamer. When I launched it, I was hit with an error that I didn't have GLIBC_2.38/GLIBC_2.39. Debian 12 doesn't have GLIBC_2.38/GLIBC_2.39, and I read that older versions of ALVR do not require it. I moved to ALVR 20.10.0, used Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 with QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 /home/zombiecoco/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/vrmonitor.sh %command% as my SteamVR launch options on the latest version. I also put in firewall rules on ALVR.
This all lead me to receiving Pipewire error: Creation failed being spammed in the console (even though I have pipe wire installed), lag, and a black screen on my headset.

I then moved to the Flatpak version, which I also saw people suggesting as to fix the pipewire error. When I tried downloading flatpak version of Steam, then ALVR, I got hit with Failed to install file: not supported. I am not familiar with Flatpak, and don't use it often, so I was using the GUI version, and I'm not sure if I am supposed to download the flatpak file through the terminal like I did a couple of times with other packages.

I'd also like to note that I am trying to use a USB connection, but I can't see an option to actually turn on USB mode anywhere in the settings, and I have no clue if it actually is turned on, but this isn't as important.

Any help would be appreciated.

#

debian is bad distro and hard to support

#

flatpak does help with bad distros tho

#

to be clear - its flatpak steam that is important here

20.12.0 ALVR installed sucessfully, and I feel a little slow for not just looking at that documentation...
But after installing flatseal and inputting xdg-run/pipewire-0 into the launch options of Steam, I still run into the Pipewire error: Creation failed error being spammed into the console. The black screen on my headset did fix, but it is extremely laggy and delayed, both wirelessly and wired. On UDP settings, everything is extremely jittery and sensitive, and it was still lagging behind on my headset. TCP removes the jitterness but fixes nothing else.

#

restart both pc and headset

#

the fix listed in the wiki definitely fix this problem for me

#

so check if you have applied it correctly

#

your other problems are just the usual ones with encode settings and network
