I have a black window too, but I can deal for now if I can get the stream running.

/home/stripe/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/vrmonitor.sh %command%

#

Don't think so

#

Would that be what caused a weird extra tiny monitor when I switched drivers?

#

What's that?

#

Got it

#

Where on the wiki? I don't seem to see where

#

Searching github didn't give any relevant results

#

How do I find what to put after ENV1=?

#

Now I found why didn't I see it erlier

wintry nymph
#

I uh, can’t find a way to disable integrated in bios? Everywhere says to look in the nb config section but I don’t have one

oblique grove
#

is it desktop or laptop?

#

if laptop you cant, if desktop read manual

wintry nymph
#

It’s a pc

#

Desktop

oblique grove
#

so just disable it in bios

wintry nymph
#

But, I don’t see the setting

oblique grove
#

have you set this pc up correctly?

wintry nymph
#

Yes?

oblique grove
#

is bios updated and memory settings right?

#

does your cpu have an igpu?

#

not all of them do

wintry nymph
#

Oh, it probably doesn’t

oblique grove
#

well thats an easy fix then, but do check it

#

coz igpus are a huge pain

#

try this : lspci | grep -i vga

#

you are missing the other settings

#

the QT_QPA_PLATFORM one in particular

#

did u test steam with normal games? make sure that works before trying vr

wintry nymph
#

Does it matter that I enabled proton?

#

Nevermind I’ll just check terraria

oblique grove
#

steamvr is a linux program, do not use proton for it

#

use proton for your games yes, but not steamvr

#

and yes it matters that you enable proton, otherwise your games wont work lol

wintry nymph
#

No no, I mean the steam play thing, to run windows games from Linux steam

oblique grove
#

that is not a thing

#

unless you have some very strange setup

#

do u mean the tickbox in steam that makes it work on linux?

#

if so yes this is the obvious one that you must have ticked

#

that makes it use proton by default

wintry nymph
#

Under compatibility

oblique grove
#

this is not an optional thing

#

without that you can only run native linux games

wintry nymph
#

Yeah

#

Anyway, terraria runs fine, no glitches

#

For the seconds I ran it before closing it

#

@oblique grove ?

oblique grove
#

can u prove it was using your gpu tho?

#

if you run "nvidia-smi" what does it return?

wintry nymph
#

One sec, gotta install it

#

Uh, version mismatch?

#

But they are both 550 I think

#

Failed to initialize NVML: Driver/library version mismatch
NVML library version: 550.142

#

Any way to fix it? I'm super happy with the help so far

oblique grove
#

this means your gpu drivers are not installed correctly

#

your terraria test was using software rendering

#

fix nvidia gpu then can make progress

#

i dont see what os you are using....

#

follow instructions specific to ur distro for nvidia

#

you will know it works when nvidia-smi returns normal stuff (and doesnt see version mismatch)

wintry nymph
#

KDE Neon (ubuntu based)

oblique grove
#

this is a frankenstein ubuntu

#

anyway - fix your nvidia

#

you can tell its a very bad distro when the procedure for installing nvidia drivers looks like this: https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2024/kde-neon-nvidia-guide/

#

could be using arch-based and not deal with this nonsense

#

holy shit there is no distro support for nvidia? you have to do it all manually?

#

well that explains your issue

oblique grove
#

users nvidia wasnt working so it had to be right?

#

look how long that list of instructions is! and yes i have done this manual install many times going back many years on servers i maintain

#

if nvidia-smi returns error then drivers are not installed

#

its the original from nvidia yes

#

this is the only official thing nvidia provides 🙂

#

the distros just repackage this and precompile it

#

but its too much for most users

#

kde neon is a bit of a joke if it doesnt provide this for users

#

i have no idea - its very difficult for devs not to just be shouting ARCH all the time

#

@wintry nymph we strongly recommend you to consider using something like endeavour os - it will "just work"

wintry nymph
#

Well, there goes my display, I followed the guide and Nvidia wouldn't compile

wintry nymph
#

Installing fedora tomorrow on the recommendation of a friend

wintry nymph
#

They recommended workstation

wintry nymph
#

Fedora KDE works like a dream

#

Can we mark this solved?
