Solution 1 gave 2 errors from ALVR:
error in encoder thread: Failed to initialize vulkan frame context: Invalid argument

Encoder: Image creation failure: Unknown error

But it's showing errors now which is progress.

I think I see the issue right now: Nvidia-smi can't communicate with the Nvidia drivers. I thought I installed them correctly, but I'll try reinstalling them and then get back to you.

Upon installing the drivers and restarting, my computer went headless. I now get why Linux users hate Nvidia.

this means you did not install the drivers correctly
