#[Quest 3] Client Side Stuttering when moving my head, but not on rotating it

Hello,

thanks for this amazing project and thank you even more for making it available on Linux!
I had the chance to test a Quest 3 from a friend and installed ALVR and got it working within 5 minutes. But now i have my own Quest 3 here and i don't know if these stutters appeared on tested HMD or not.

It's weird, when i rotate my head, everything runs buttery smooth. But as soon as i move my head "parallel" to the screen. For example leaning from side to side while keeping my head straight. It stutters just enough to be really annoying. I recorded some footage via the debug function and saw the my PC wasn't introducing those stutters. The recorded video ran smooth.

My PC is connected to 1GBit/s via ethernet and my rounter is pusing out WiFi 6 / 5GHz 1 meter away from my headset.

I found the post from gnarum where the client is stuck at 72hz and someone there mentioned making sure to set my GPU Performance to highest clock via LACT, already tried that aswell.

Details:
OS: Garuda Linux
Headset: Quest 3 128GB
Installation method: AUR (alvr)
GPU: Radeon RX7900XT
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
DE: Hyprland (Wayland; still on wlroots version)

Settings:
Default Presets, as it comes out of the box.
Tried the different codes, tried different bitrates, tried different stream protocols and different refresh rates...

I don't know if this has something to do with it, but i can't open the SteamVR Settings. I found some posts online about manually adding a freefont library but that didn't work. So maybe there are some settin there i could've tried but i can't access it :/

I'm having the same issue as @prime tide above ๐Ÿ‘† I can't access the settings of steamVR. Occasionally it opens but shows a black screen. 9 times out of 10, nothing happens when clicking on settings. I think I'm very close to get steamVR to work on my quest from pop_os! I simply need to add the new launch options in these settings but I don't know how ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Hey, im having the same problem: small stutters when moving my head
The game is running at 30 fps and seems to be capped there (graphics setting doesnt change the fps), however this was noticably better on virtual desktop, with the same low fps.
I am using an X11 session

I understand that they are complety different, i was just trying to convey, that the low fps isnt the problem per se.
Broken reprojection might however be it. Is there any way for me to fix it? I should probably open a different thread for this.

#

hm, so for now low fps = heavy stuttering?

hm, well sorry for hijacking the thread then as it seems unrelated but thanks for the help anyway

Anyone got an idea on what my issue could be then? ๐Ÿ˜„

#

i know it's not the headset tracking itself. Running a game directly on the quest itself runs perfect.

I know that running it on the quest is a completely different scenario. I just said that to rule out any hardware tracking issues on the quest side itself.

Alright, tbh i have no idea what monado & direct mode are really ๐Ÿ˜„ but if you say it's worth waiting for i will ๐Ÿ˜„

I just realized how good games actually run on the quest itself so i am not that devastated that ALVR is bugging me now ๐Ÿ˜„

Sure some games like Alyx and DAVIGO require the PC but i can live those stutters. But i long for the day they are gone ๐Ÿ˜„

Nonetheless - absolutely awesome project!!!

oh interesting!

will it have it's own "launcher" or will i be able to tell steam and / or bottles to launch a game through it then?

#

is there some list online that i can use to figure out what game uses openxr and openvr?

#

sorry if i bother you with this, this isn't part of my issue anymore

#

i can close this now i assume

#

Ah got it
