Title. This problem was on windows too. When I launch Half-Life Alyx, the game runs fine on my monitor but looks bad in the headset. It looks like low fps, as if the game isn’t in focus or being prioritized. On windows, the fix was to make it so the command prompt transmitting the video is visible, and putting it in focus.

The 1660Super handled HL:A (on windows)

and that’s maybe 40% worse

Yeah. I may need to use windows and reinstall Linux when it gets fixed
