#Steam fully crashes when starting a game in VR / Arch Linux

Hello there ! I am currently facing an issue when trying to start a game on Steam.

On every games I've tried (Distance, and Grapple Tournament), starting the game with SteamVR opened just crashes my Steam entirely (as in, I have to restart Steam).

I do not have any specific errors messages, except (in ALVR) a NvENC error with CUDA not detected, even though I have the right package installed (named open-cl-nvidia)

I'm thinking it might be linked to OpenXR, as I can't also open the OpenXR tab in SteamVR settings.

My setup :

  • Pico 4 (not plugged in, running over Wifi in ALVR)
  • Arch Linux
  • RTX 3060 Mobile (Laptop, SteamVR is running on the dGPU with the required launch options)
  • Nvidia drivers versions at 550
  • X11, BSPWM

I am not sure what log files I should link here, so if I have specific logfiles to include, please let me know Smilebuki

Thanks in advance

All my games in general runs on the dGPU, I said SteamVR because I've seen that it was needed for it

#

From the Arch Wiki, they say that the Cuda driver is shipped in opencl-nvidia & nvidia

#

I'll still try with the cuda package to see if the error persist

#

Still giving me the same error

#

20.8.1, ALVR on AUR

#

Because I have all my launch options setup like this for every games I download

#

Nightly ALVR ? Where can I find this one ?

#

It is running on GPU, mangohud shows my dGPU name when running the game

#

Aight, let me try that

#

I cannot build nightly at all, it gives me an error, at this step

#

alvr-git pulls up nightly builds directly, I don't see why I wouldn't be able to use this, but oh well

#

also, everytime I launch SteamVR from ALVR, I get this error, I already

  • Verified game files
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled SteamVR

#

So after trying for a bit before crashing for the night, I haven't managed to make it work

For some reason, the nightly builds makes SteamVR show this message, which I didn't had on releases builds

#

and for some reasons, adding PROTON_LOG=1 to SteamVR launch options doesn't give me any logs

#

I tried yet another thing this time

I nuked my entire SteamVR folder, uninstalled it, nuked the compdata folder too, and reinstalled SteamVR

Gonna see if it fix the issue

#

Yep, doesn't fix

#

I am lost now, when I start SteamVR WITHOUT using ALVR, it doesn't give me the message, but as SOON as I do this, it just doesn't work anymore

#

SteamVR also detects a headset from nowhere, because I factory resetted my headset, and I don't have ALVR on the headset installed yet

thick sentinel
#

I'm gonna try the latest version of Nightly, and if it keep not working, I'll try to use Stable again

If it doesn't work, i guess there's no use to even try making this work at all, because it seems to not work for me entirely, that's great

#

Yep, I still get the "Key component" error, that's so cool

thick sentinel
#

Yep, the issue comes from the nightly builds, I don't have the key component error when using stables

Okay, after one deseperate last try, Grapple Tournament started without Steam crashing ? I can play but everything feels so laggy
