#Quest 3 Hand Tracking Input Gestures

that seems to work! I see here also it says to curl a fist with thumb on top for the joystick but that gesture I can't figure out yet 🤔 @fervent grail
i kinda got it but its super sensitive!
its interesting tho it kind of works like a DPad, will have to play around with it i gues
btw does this have a pclink option? just got my link cable in today
I tried giving it a shot on the version you said, including the client as 0717.client.alvr and the ip as 127.0.0.1 in manual but it doesnt seem to pop up, used the ADB forwarder app, and device is already in developer mode
^
okay! However as a test i did open up sidequest and I had it working yesterday but when i plug into USB now it doesn't detect the q3 anymore and I don't get a prompt to accept ADB 🤔
What do you use? the pico?
im usually an HP reverb + CV1 controller hybrid person but honestly the quest on link almost surpasses that setup especially with ALVR 🙂
Wish the screen was a little clearer, those 100 px and density setup they use make a difference, reverb is still higher quality screen
oh wow I just had to reboot. Didnt think turning on and off again for a headset would matter for a USB setting lol
is there some way to automate this sidequest step, like a batch file or launch argument?
Also sorry for text wall but i seem to have spoken too soon. When I go to add manual it doesnt seem to save. I press enter on the hostname and IP and click save but it doesnt add it to the list anymore
yes its running now. Should I quit and launch from ALVR?
probably some weird antivirus thing idek. I setup port forwarding in my router also just incase. I just use windows defender.
yes i removed the one I put in earlier but it just doesnt wanna save
and in the boxes I did type in and hit save on what I put in before. I had this issue when i first installed also, I don't remember what I did to get it to save it. Maybe I deleted the json file 🤔
I wil say also I want to compliment u and thank u for this project even tho its finicky I understand doing this kind of thing as a solo or even small team open source is challenging, and I feel like this setup is the best across all the paid apps. I gave virtual desktop a shot today just to compare but the fact that I can't easily integrate desktop+ in there or use multiple monitors easily is a dealbreaker for me
I saw something in the tooltips that said to toggle off a setting if using other extensions? I do have some other steam plugins running, like the slimevr feeder maybe thats causing interferance
Okay so it took deleting the json file and running the sidequest commands like 3 times each and then it decided to work lol
....aaand connection timeout. nvm - yeah not sure whats going on but even on wireless alvr does seem to crash my steamvr also.
ill troubleshoot. I suspect it has something to do with Spacecal or Slime feeder
I figured it out but the last thing I need to do is figure out how to get sensitivity way down on the hand tracking, it's doing whatever it wants when I'm using my mouse and typing - doing hands free VR is the main reason why I wanted to use ALVR so I can do work things without worrying about picking up controllers to adjust things.
It keeps taking screenshots also @fervent grail
I believe the issue from before was because SpaceCal was trying to launch which isn't something I need anymore
yep disabled that extension.
Thats a good idea, toggle it until I want to move around or do something, adjust something in VR
I'm not sure why the screenshot thing keeps going off tho, it happens when my hands are flat out on my keyboard or i make a fist. the joystick / trigger+joystrick / screenshot gestures are a little confusing. Some video demos would be helpful lol
Screenshots would be the start button + trigger right?
Yes apparently you can lol. I assume multiple gestures are going off at the same time
Quest fixed this issue by making a radial menu come up when you look at your hand instead of all the time. You have to look at you palm or at least have it facing the camera, and hold your index down. Then a menu comes up for screenshot, record, menu, etc
Might be a nice feature to add into ALVR sometime in the future
Interesting, I think the quest 3 ux for it is pretty intuitive, might be worth looking into what theyve done. As far as the hand experience goes in virtual desktop it implements it really well but the dealbreaker is lack of integration , e.g. emulating controllers & no dual monitors.
