i read in other threads that version 20.4.3 should be used for wired.
i cant seem to get it working at all (quest stays on "searching for steamer")
and alvr on pc just says 6037.client.alvr: 0.0.0.0 (Unknown) Disconnected
i used the linux zip version since i had issues with the drivers being put in my /tmp folder

i used the adb command for tcp:9943 and tcp:9944

#

oh and for some reason i cant get a usb 3.0 cable to work at all (even not in sidequest to forward tcp)
idk if i did something wrong... just forgot to mention that

#

Idk if any of those logs are helpful but included them regardless

Yea you can basically just ignore vrwebhelper crashes.. configuration of it however I can't exactly help you on that other than did you follow the guidelines in the wiki. I don't really use a USB connection for streaming

orchid plover
#

Yes

dense barn
#

Don't forget to launch SteamVR using the dashboard not steam itself

orchid plover
#

I followed it

dense barn
#

And the server did connect to SteamVR right?

orchid plover
#

Version 20.5 "work" but was laggy as hell

dense barn
#

Do you use AMD?

#

Yea you do

orchid plover
orchid plover
dense barn
orchid plover
dense barn
#

You can do this in the cli, corectrl, or lact

#

It does for me

#

But

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

orchid plover
dense barn
#

I have the same GPU as you

orchid plover
#

Good ol' _on my machine it works _ 😆

dense barn
#

Ah yea he's a Fedora user

#

^

#

To be fair what distro doesn't have cef problems lol

#

Specially with SteamVR

orchid plover
#

They should be all installed (handbrake uses it and it works) 🤔

#

Ill have another look in a bit. Just had dinner

#

Ill try appimage 1st since it should be self contained

#

Since the 20.5.x appimage works but god awful pixels

dense barn
#

That being this very specific missing file error

dense barn
lethal hinge
#

Hello I'm on steam deck and it's linux so everything I try to connect it doesn't connect

orchid plover
#

mesa is more than fits on screen

lethal hinge
#

It just says please plug in your headset

orchid plover
#

i dont think running it on a deck is the smartest move... but who am i to judge

lethal hinge
#

Ok I'm srry

dense barn
orchid plover
#

no

#

i used the released zip

#

one sec

dense barn
#

Ohhh

orchid plover
#

but the latest one does work but not over wired

dense barn
#

Yea it should work just fine over USB but people have trouble some people say it works the same way some not realistically we just need someone to do libusb integration

orchid plover
#

hmm lemme get the appimage and see if that one works (i should... hopefully)

dense barn
#

A video editor

orchid plover
#

ish

#

oops didnt meant to ping

dense barn
#

^ it's a little bit more complicated than that but eh

orchid plover
#

only not mesa-freeworld but i dont see any package with that name at all

dense barn
#

(not talking about the openx264 bit)

orchid plover
#

hmm

#

well vaapi is installed

dense barn
#

No it's not

dense barn
orchid plover
#

its not quite called mesa-freeworld

#

seems vdpau is already installed

dense barn
#

Alvr doesn't use vdpau

#

That's a decoding API only makes no sense as the streamer needs to encode not decode

orchid plover
#

well they are the mesa freeworld ones from what i can find

dense barn
#

I'm pretty sure it's either just mesa-freeworld

#

And the vaapi drivers are abbreviated to just va

#

I know it can be confusing if you don't know what to look for

orchid plover
dense barn
#

Here install
mesa-va-drivers-freeworld that's the name to help you out

#

If you just read the description you would've seen that

orchid plover
#

of the post?

#

one sec... gotta deal with this one

orchid plover
dense barn
#

You may need to run different commands look at the reddit post

orchid plover
#

welp lets see...

#

ran it and hand full of system complaints

#

removed 2 and added bunch

orchid plover
#

i had about 6GB of updated to go so i also did those just now

#

soo i assume just retry now

#

@sharp steeplelaunched through ALVR

#

will send log

#

i see a window flash for a frame and then that window is gone

#

idk what changing it shouldve done but it broke steamvr

#

even the appimage doenst work now

#

well 20.5.0 works

#

WTF

#

or rather... "streamer is restarting"

#

hmmm it seems 20.5.0 works at the moment

#

and yet.... 20.5.0 works

#

idk how but it works (and it seems to also be working over cable)

dense barn
#

Can you search for libx264.so and see what shows up

#

It's looking for a very specific version

#

Yea

#

That's what I'm thinking

#

Damn it I forgot what I was about to do

orchid plover
#

yes its using ip 127.0.0.1

#

well im not compaining

dense barn
#

Is it using vaapi through?

#

Could you check in the logs

#

(the logs in the dashboard)

orchid plover
#

ig i can send the file too

dense barn
#

You have to connect and then quickly disconnect else your logs are just going to be filled with that

orchid plover
#

where does the appimage store them

dense barn
#

You need to enable that first

orchid plover
#

wdym?

dense barn
#

Log to disk because alvr does really have a deletion stat so you can get multiple gbs of a log file

#

So just quickly connect and disconnect the headset

orchid plover
#

how w/o killing the session?

#

sleep mode?

dense barn
#

Yes

dense barn
#

So you got it?

orchid plover
dense barn
#

Hmm yeah maybe you do need to reset the session

orchid plover
#

Well it works...

dense barn
#

Ok don't forget to add the resolved tag

orchid plover
#

well idk if vaapi is working

#

tho its suuuuper weird how 20.4.3 doesnt work but 20.5.0 does

#

what?

dense barn
#

Your resolution

orchid plover
#

ah]

#

sec

#

high

#

it was doing decent

#

~70% usage

#

hmm is there a cable to change the quest AND use usb?
its rn almost empty since the im stuck to a usb 2.0 cable

dense barn
#

Your using a quest 2 right?

orchid plover
#

3

dense barn
#

Hmm not sure, but I know medium fits the native quest 2 resolution perfectly(and it scales depending on your headset's width so the quest 2 mid is not the same as the quest 3's because well they have different resolutions

orchid plover
#

oh well ill use mid then since it was deffinitly dropping frames (not many tho)

#

well in the end it was for me switching to the latest version that fixed it

#

@sharp steepleis there a difference between the setup of the usb connection for the quest 2 vs quest 3? (as in software side, not the adb stuff)

#

hmm weird how it works fine over usb for me then

#

hmm iinm usb has seperate data lines for power communication

#

well i 1st need to figure out why i cant use a usb 3.0 connection with my pc

#

does ALVR support 3.0?

#

i see

#

nvm 3.0 does work...

#

so all i need to find is a usb C cable with a seperate power plug

#

im still confused on what prevented it from running but... im happy it works again

#

it weird how its not able to find the libx264.so since its working with the latest version... (but im not complaining tho) 🤷

orchid plover
dense barn
#

Ahh yes the classic PC USB ports being crap

orchid plover
#

This exactly what I need 😄

#

Should be a matter of getting 2 usb c cables and then opening them and cutting the data one and using that one for pd while the other one goes to the pc with the data lines and ground only

#

TIL

dense barn
#

Skill issue by mobo manufacturers

dense barn
#

Which I'm pretty sure is pd

#

But yea for not every port to be able to go up to 15w is a skill issue

#

Maybe not front io but definitely back io
