I bought a prebuilt corne and it worked out of the box but I tried flashing some changes to it and now none of the keys work. Thought this might have been down to the MCU board selection being wrong? The components are soldered directly to the board. Any way to tell what I should pick? Or if the problem lies somewhere else?

Where did you get it from? The "corne" shield in ZMK is for using a pro micro form factor MCU, so if the MCU board is soldered to the PCB like that, you need some custom board definition.
