Bed is wobbly and the knobs are hard to work. The one knob cant get any tighter yet it's still too close to the nozzle. Bed level seems inconsistent. Idk how to fix or what to start

Fixed

Unlevel Bed:

X axis gantry was unlevel, leading to over-compensation with bed leveling

  • Upped the gantry height to where the bolts are above the power supply
  • Loosened the 3 right side Gantry wheels via a normal wrench and Allen Wrench
Used a ruler to measure each side of the gantrys distance to the top of the printer (be careful to not reduce your gantry height, very easy to do)
  • Adjust right side to where it matches in ruler distance to the left side
  • While keeping right side in place, carefully re-tighten wheels as you previously loosened them.
  • Repeat as needed until satisfactorily level

Wobbly Bed

This was seemingly a loose screw under the bed.

  • Use an Normal Wrench and a Allen Wrench to tighten the underbed screws as needed

Do you have springs or...anything between the base plate and the bed? It almost looks like you have just the threaded rod with nothing to act as a tensioned spacer

#

And too close to the nozzle may also be an issue more so on the z homing switch + the offset value you have set for it

#

since it doesnt look like you have an autoleveler

I'll send a photo momentarily

Gotcha, vid make it hard to tell

ember echo
#

Ah, fair

#

Yeah I got some orange springs, forgot their names. An improvement to stock

lilac prairie
#

I personally did the nylon/rubber spacers instead..so much nicer than springs
Seems like its heavily skewed to one side. Did you check that the bed itself isnt warped or bowing in some way...as well if your gantry is square to the system?

How do I determine?

lilac prairie
#

Lots of vids on youtube, look up x gantry leveling on ender
As for the bed, put a straightedge (like a metal ruler or something with a consistent machined edge) across it at different points and look for gaps underneath

ember echo
#

Ill check that out. Probably will be more able to do the thing tomorrow - is it the same thing as a protractor?

lilac prairie
#

I mean a protracter can work if its large enough at the base

#

My old ender has a small bow that I generally have to work around

#

Can see that slight gap underneath, means the two points at the other ends of the ruler are pulled up, resulting in a "bow" shape

ember echo
#

And that's the bed plate itself, not just the toplayer?

#

Also took these

#

Right image is max tight while left one isn't

lilac prairie
#

and you are over aligning the bed to compensate

ember echo
#

That's the center rail right?

#

Gantry

lilac prairie
#

Yea, the central rail that the extruder head moves along in the X axis

ember echo
#

Gotcha

lilac prairie
#

The wheels at the right can come loose or wear down and cause the right side to sag, resulting in that crazy misalignment

#

or just straight up need a yearly recheck

ember echo
#

hm. hopefully it can be fixed

lilac prairie
#

If it is the gantry then yea, Ive redone the leveling process before and it helps a ton

ember echo
#

leveling process?

Gantry alignment/leveling

flat fiber
#

get some silicone springs. wont fix the wavey bed thats a creality special but you wont get wobble

ember echo
#

Oh right I forgot my bed is wobbling...

#

On the good news

#

I did manage to level the gantry

#

It was off a decent amount

lilac prairie
# ember echo I did manage to level the gantry

That looks like the top part of the frame. The gantry is the beam thr extruder head runs along in X. So the bar that actually has the extruder, belt , wheels, etc on it.
But yes, squaring the frame is def important as well

ember echo
#

No ik, I was measuring from the x bar

#

Ruler was sitting on the actual gantry

#

I found the springs I have, idk what these are made of

Ahhh ok

ember echo
#

Good news

#

Test print is all too loose, no more max tension being too close to the nozzle

#

I may be able to level the bed properly

#

(This is good)

#

I notice similar wrench ports on the bottom of the bed as on the gantry, I may try to tighten those up

flat fiber
#

If you have a magnetic bed you can use aluminum foil to reduce the low areas without bending the printbed

ember echo
#

Interesting

#

I do not have a magnetic plate at this time, but will keep it in mind should that happen

#

I tightened the bed wrenches a bit and it is less wobbly. I think the printer is adequately fixed
