just watch Frank's Latest video on finishing

practice, practice practice.
Your actual armor really shouldn't be your practice parts.
Finish a half dozen XYZ cubes and speed shapes.
When you can finish and clearcoat them consistantly then consider doing your actual armor.
Its like anything - you have to build your skillset
Ok
Yeah I watched that earlier actually lol
he says it all, practice practice and test what clearcoats can be applied on the final color coat without chemical reaction. 1 K pu clearcoat can be sufficient.
And don't put 2 k down as basecoat, it so freaking hard to sand (or scratch, which is the point of 2 K clear).Get yourself 1/2 Liter resin , create a dark room for photography, in the dark (red light) brush it on the model, go out and put it under UV light to let it cure just a thin layer, the resin will try to spread out horizontally before curing, making it as smooth as a glass plate, but do not use 2K coat to mask the layer lines , once cured that stuff is as hard as glass. and when you master that go try it on the real deal.
I use HVLP for 2k instead of cans but the basic process is the same.

Apply 1-2 mist coats and wait 5 minutes

Apply 1 wet coat. This is the hardest part. You want to ride the line and apply just enough to make the part glossy and no more. If you go on too thick it will run.
-
Store the part in as dust free of an area as possible. If a plane is horizontal it will self level exceptionally. If it's vertical it will be prone to runs if you over applied anywhere. Use that to your advantage.

Apply duralumen, wait 24 hours, repeat steps 1-3.
Also the duralumen is super sensitive to any imperfections. Sometimes you will have areas that didn't quite fill smooth but looked like it after sanding steps. They will come out as bright streaks. You can save these by buffing the shit out of the streak and then one more blending pass
Yo thanks man! I've heard that it's easy to accidentally have the 2k spray can orange peel a bit, would you recommend doing just a straight gloss black base coat? I've experience with that
And it's gonna be on a helmet so it'll be anything but level 💀
Good to know fr, I was rlly concerned about that
2k over a Matte base is easier to get a mirror shine clear than a gloss base coat with or without 2k.
You will only orange peel if you go too heavy on your wet coat or you try to paint in extremely high humidity. Same thing with runs.
