Ive been told to use Bondo, Wood filler, Spackle, Water putty, and a bunch of other stuff. But I'm not sure what to actually use, what looks like a good idea is quite expensive, and what is cheaper looks like a bad idea. Please help! this is my first helmet or anything cosplay.
#Working on a Clone Trooper helmet, unsure what to use for filling.

All the fillers have their place, so question is what do you already have?
There are more options, if you have spare filament or supports you could melt them with a solder iron, remember your safety equipment, and fill the seams in, it’s the same idea as a 3D one, you are fusing plastic so it becomes solid and then sand that smooth.
If it’s a case of cost then I would use some car filler and put that in the seams then sand.
You need to understand that the most important thing is the sanding, you can use any filler you like, but if you don’t take the time to get the sanding smooth you will see the joints.
This was two parts and welded just on the inside and then used wood filler on it, and this is it fully painted.
Thank you, but should i be concerned about it coming off after I'm done or working on with the rest of the process?
If I understand you correctly no, wood filler I wouldn’t use if you have high humidity but car filler will pork fine, you will sand away most of the filler as that’s the idea, the filler just sits in the deeper recesses to fill them up to the level of the print, you will end up with a patchy mess of a helmet but it will be smooth and once primed and painted it will look like it was straight out the Empires factory.
As an example look at this before and after, this is with car filler.
