I don't know "Nippon" - but yes there's a difference between a quality paint like Montana Colors, and cheap no-brand stuff.
If the solvent is the same ..
Mostly not that much
The things I see a big difference in:
• Pigment. Cheap brands seam to take 2-3 coats where a quality brand needs one. Its not any cheaper if you have to use 3x as much.
• Adhesion. Cheap paint often comes up even with quality "delicate surface" masking tape.
• Toughness. I don't know what else to call it, but the cheap paints here even after a week of curing will still produce marks from where masking tape was applied. Montana Colors never does. As well as always seeming 'soft' and easy to dent the paint with little more than a fingernail.
There's been a couple times I fall back in the trap of using a cheap paint because it was the exact right color, for one little thing and so I figure a $5 can instead of a $15 can makes sense. Then I spend 3 hours fixing the F!up: All to save the $10 differential. And I always swear I'll never do it again.
