the extruder does push plastic in the hole, and since the hole is tapered, it comes out thinner tan it goes in, it does this by putting the plastic between a cog and a wheel or even 2 cogs, turn the cog and with its teeth it pushes plastic out. if the otherside of that tapered hole, that is heated is somehow blocked, the cogwheel misses a beat, hence the clicking, that is a tooth moving without pushing the plastic furthr=er. that means that 1: the nozzle might be partialy clogged, and will clogg completely in time. or 2: your layer just is too thin, instead of sqeezing plastic onto the previous layer it has to sqeeze so hard that the new plastic coming after it has no place to go. try printing with the layerheigth larger. do the math, you start with 1.75 mm thick fillament that is heated and pushed through a 0.4 hole and it contineus to be pushed through, at some point it cannot flow anymore. then the cogwheel skips a beat: a click
