This may make no sense to most people idk
All depends on what colour you want on top coat.
Most metallics benefit from a high gloss black base to make the colours pop, but for example iron man red sometimes looks great with a gold base.
There is no steadfast rule on colours, I found it best to use what I could get locally and experiment, I know this takes time but each test you learn more and gain skills to use next time. It very much a learn by doing experience.
What are you planning to make?
Well I have done an iron man helmet and have another on the go however I want to proud of the paint job I did first
This is the faceplate which I thought was kinda good but it was the red part that didn’t look to good
Paint looks really good on the faceplate.
The red is always difficult as it has other spots of silver/ gunmetal on it, and it’s easier to do those first as it saves taping off the whole helmet to paint a small patch.
For the red I would try the same gold you have for the face plate and a black gloss base and test the red on these, I would think the gold with red over it will be more movie like.
Your faceplate preparation looks good as the paint is on very evenly so just use the same techniques on the remaining parts and you are good to go.
Just remember to leave the paint to cure, I myself have ruined paint jobs by being impatient and getting finger prints in the paint.
This is my current paint job for it the helmet as a whole is unfinished
If that’s your first print and paint attempt it’s really good, little finishing techniques you will pick up by doing will get you to movie prop quality.
Did you weld the model together?
Yeah it was my first time and I did weld the insides yes with a 3d pen only just got my hands on a soldering iron
Like I said it’s a great start
My latest death stroke is one I’m kinda proud of
