Hopefully this helps, I like you couldn’t find a direct match for the red, so I used crimson red by rust oleum and added graphite power to it, only a little then sprayed a matt clear coat over the top. These are two helmets I did using the same technique
Before the graphite and after
I like the look of the last one a lot
Thanks, just used a little more graphite on that one and prob buffed it a bit more before the clear. I am really happy with it and it actually looks a bit more realistic as it kind of adds weathering too.
I assume it fits your head?
Yes, I didn’t scale it, but the do3d model I purchased has a separate back panel so you can wear it, as it’s a thin model I found magnets didn’t hold too well so ended up with some elastic to make it flexible so it can go on and off with ease.
I’ve used the same model, I’ve scaled it to my head and it will be done printing soon, I’m not too sure on how to attach the back plate though
I got some wide 3 inch black elastic strip and stuck it on the helmet and back piece so it could stretch and allow the piece to move. It works well and it kind of tips the two prongs at the top in towards the head and pivots on that, annoying magnets added too much bulk to fit comfortably as they would have been my method of choice.
Yeah I may have to use the elastic bands, seems a bit complicated
I wanna go for a more red colour rather than the maroon colour in the show and I’ve found these on that sprayster website you told me about, what do you think? I’m leaning towards the painters touch one
I think the last one is the most red like the actual helmet
@mild forum do I need a base coat, if so what colour. Im gonna use a matte coat after
I did on mine, I did it black just so I could see the red going on easier and any spots I had missed. The matte after will work well and adds a layer of protection too
Any particular black?
I used auto extreme gloss black, cheap and works well for me.
Thank you, does the black affect the final result of the colour much?
Not too much, I found it a bit of a deeper colour with the black so a little darker
Thank you
