Hey fam,
This is the first track I produced after really committing to doing it in January of this year. I've been playing it out and getting solid response from the dance floor, but I'd love your input too! Specifically looking for feedback on the sound palette, mixing, and drums.

Backstory: there's a story around Diplo trying to kick DJ Dan off the decks at a Burning Man camp called Duck Pond in 2018. I produced this the same week as a huge Burning Man party here in SF as an homage to my Duck Pond friends, hence the quack sounds. Yes, one of the synths is just a sampled duck call lol... 🦆

Aaaaanyways, fire away!

Right.... I've been waiting to check a track out from you sir.... So as I say to everyone, I'm going to type as I listen and what I write, is my own personal opinion...

Ooooh... V5... so we've got this far! Kick on the intro has a bit of 'bounce', but once it "kicks" in to full EQ it's solid and strong. Bass line is good, although misses a bit of sub. Could do with some 'depth' in the initial build as it feels a little flat, drop is awesome, but kick seems to have a high cut? Sounds like 50-60Hz rather than a 39-40?

Halfway through, I'm feeling some early lows and high, less on the mids and real sub lows. Just a frequency thing for me I think. Seems very mono/centrally aligned apart from the highs which take up all the width. LOVE the squeaker and breakbeat. Could be the synth is a little high on the DBs so is "drowning" the mix?

Overall I wasn't 'bored' by the track which is really easy for me, plenty of variation to keep my entertained, so a bit of a 'mix' and maybe adjust some EQs for a cracker I'd happily play.

Thank you for the detailed feedback! I def need to revisit this one to re-mix it since I haven't touched it since this version. Have learned a lot since then and everything you've said makes sense. I'll give it a crack next week and report back!

I'm no expert by any means. I rest listening to a LOT of music over the last 30 years, previous producing and what I'm doing now (very different). I'm still stunned I released two tracks this year in all honesty! So literally, my feedback is an opinion. What would stop me from playing it? What do I think it needs, is good, is missing, or it's strengths are etc.

I genuinely don't like giving feedback as it can be taken in the wrong way, and anything I say is meant as constructive, thought provoking or concept challenging and never a negative. 🥰

And I appreciate that, truly. I feel like my friends and peers at home are often too polite when I ask for feedback. I NEED it if I'm going to improve! I've been playing this one out since V5, but it needs a refresh before NYE for sure.

Hey there Major! Cool track it super fun and groovy. I would maybe add more dynamics throughout your track. Go in an automate some parts of the songs. I think it will take the track to the next level. I felt as though after each build and drop the engery was the same. Like I wasn’t taken away by the drop as much. Lastly towards the end when you switch up the drop to that fun one. That build transition could be tweaked so that feel more impactful. Other than that for your 1st track this is solid. Keep it up 👍🏻🙌🏻
