#crashing over and over again

If this consistently happens when interacting with a specific mount, send it up to space and get yourself another one.
Also, are you running any mods (any at all, and yes, that does include running wemod)?
Have you tried a Steam file verify?
its all mounts, different Server, different Animals. Sending up is not helping.
No mods, steam verify many times
I reserched a lot, for weeks now
Ah, all mounts, not a specific one.
Right, since Steam file verify only checks files listed in the installer (so it's helpful when there's file corruption) but ignores files and folders not listed in the installer, ca you try the following:
Uninstall the game
Remove any remaining files/folders from the game directory (usually installed in the steamapps folder - do not touch the files in your userprofile (yet)
Re-install the game
This way you're making sure there's no other files/folders in the game folder, except the ones that should be there.
indeed
Just out of curiosity, if you uninstall the game, check if there's any files/folders left in steamapps\common\Icarus
ok, I´ll try this. the only Thing I haven´t tried yet. Thank u. I´ll text when it´s done.
there was something left. I deleted everything and it installs now. I hope that was the point of failure.
unfortunately it still crashes
Haha I've crashed a couple times too. I'm wondering if these devs are actually ArrowHead. This games last patch was to fix bugs instead it's created alot of new ones. Same story in helldivers 2 🤣
sad
Same here. Since last update the game crashes when crafting at a station (machining bench or similar).
ChatGPT gave me these steps to follow. They might be sound or not - I haven’t tried anything yet.
PHASE 1 — Quick sanity checks (10–15 minutes)
☐ Reboot before testing
Sounds basic, but it clears driver hangs and memory fragmentation after updates.
☐ Verify game files (VERY common fix after updates)
Steam updates sometimes corrupt shaders or PAKs.
• Steam → Library → Icarus
• Right-click → Properties → Installed Files
• Verify integrity of game files
☐ Disable Steam Overlay (Icarus hates overlays)
• Steam → Settings → In-Game
• Turn off Steam Overlay
• Also disable:
• NVIDIA GeForce Experience overlay
• Discord overlay
• MSI Afterburner / RTSS overlay (for now)
☐ Launch once as Administrator
• Icarus.exe → Right-click → Run as admin
(If this helps, set it permanently in Compatibility settings)
PHASE 2 — Graphics & engine stability (most common crash causes)
☐ Reset in-game graphics settings
After major updates, old configs can crash UE games.
• Set Graphics Preset → Medium
• Turn OFF:
• DLSS / Frame Generation
• Ray Tracing
• Motion Blur
• Foliage Interaction
• Cap FPS to 60 temporarily
👉 If stable, re-enable features one at a time
Force DirectX 11 (huge for stability)
Icarus defaults to DX12, which is crash-prone on some systems.
(Dx11 runs terrible on my pc so this isn’t an option for me)
Delete shader & config cache (VERY IMPORTANT after updates)
Delete these folders (they regenerate safely):
C:\Users<you>\AppData\Local\Icarus\Saved
C:\Users<you>\AppData\Local\D3DSCache
If you want to be cautious:
• Rename Saved → Saved_old
This alone fixes a huge number of post-patch crashes.
PHASE 3 — NVIDIA driver & Windows stability
You said drivers are up to date 👍 — still worth this:
☐ Clean driver install (not express)
• Download latest NVIDIA driver
• Choose Custom Install
• Check “Perform a clean installation”
• Do NOT install GeForce Experience (temporarily)
☐ NVIDIA Control Panel sanity pass
NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings → Program Settings → Icarus:
• Power Management Mode → Prefer Maximum Performance
• Low Latency Mode → Off
• Texture Filtering Quality → High Performance
• V-Sync → Off
Check Windows Event Viewer for crash clues
This helps identify if it’s the game, driver, or system.
• Press Win + X → Event Viewer
• Windows Logs → Application
• Look for Error at crash time
• nvlddmkm → GPU/driver issue
• ucrtbase.dll → corrupted runtime
• EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION → usually config/shader related
(If you want, paste the error here later and I’ll decode it)
Check temps under load
Use HWInfo:
• CPU: ideally < 85°C
• GPU: ideally < 80°C
Thermal spikes = instant UE crash.
Ensure Windows page file is enabled
Even with 32 GB RAM, UE needs it.
• System → Advanced → Performance → Virtual Memory
• Set to System Managed on your fastest drive
PHASE 5 — Multiplayer & mod-related crashes
☐ Disable mods entirely
Even outdated client-side mods can crash after updates.
☐ Test SOLO offline first
If solo is stable but multiplayer crashes:
• It’s often server desync or outdated workshop content
PHASE 6 — Last-resort fixes (only if still crashing)
☐ Full clean reinstall (but done correctly)
1. Uninstall Icarus
2. Manually delete:
Steam\steamapps\common\Icarus
C:\Users<you>\AppData\Local\Icarus
Reinstall
4. Launch once on DX11 + Medium
☐ Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables
Install both:
• 2015–2022 x64
• 2015–2022 x86
Don't go for the Run as Admin thing.
Steam and Icarus need to run in the same security context or the game might not be (properly) able to access your user files (resulting in loss of (progress for) characters, workshop items, even entire prospects)...!
Appreciate the warning.
Mine seems to crash every time I’m crafting multiple items at a bench - half way through the process game will freeze and present error_access_violation.
