I had that happen once, a long, long time ago.
Back in the days when there was no Open World.
Since we ran the Mission on hard mode, there was no respawn; and since I had required mission parts in my inventory, there was no completing the mission.
So we decided to abandon the mission.
When traveling back to the drop pods, one of my team mates spotted my body floating about 300 feet in the air - thus unreachable (they tried building up to my body, but couldn't build high enough)
You're at least playing in an Open World, so at least you can respawn.
Still, I agree your body should be visible for your team mate...

yer its just a little weird that's all about the the third time its happened so far. The respawn is almost next to the base in Great River but the run back to Verdant Terraces was annoying lol
slow knot
keep your respawn location updated and closer to you. Throw a bed roll into a nearby cave and set the respawn as you travel or at least when you think you are likely to be at risk. Don't forget to set it again when you get back to base.
