I havent played icarus in a bit but I just relogged in and my character is completely gone. I didn't leave him on a mission or delete him or any of the dumb stuff that one might suggest. So what happened to my char?

From about 12/8 until early March, the first time you logged in, you would have been prompted to migrate your account from the old central server model to the current decentralized version. I'm trying to ascertain if you ever went through that process.

#

if you didn't, you're SOL, and at best you can use the guide pinned in #how-to-icarus to try and reproduce your progress. If you did, then your information is local to your machine and may still be there but inaccessible for some reason.

Yeah if you didn't login in the specific window they essentially deleted your progress. You can manually create a file to cheat it back in if you happen to remember exactly what you had done..

Or just leave a negative review like many of us

360h hours, 3 maxed characters with items and exotics lost, shame on you devs, you deserve more than just nagative review

There's no need for vitriol. There was a generous three month window during which characters could have been migrated from the old system to the new. If you missed that window, it's a fairly trivial process to create new characters and perform the necessary edits to restore the approximate progress of your lost characters. However, because I enjoy playing the game, my choice would be to simply go through the motions of playing to recover progress; I recently deleted all my characters to do just that.

Expecting people to check every patch note for a game they own in case the devs delete all their progress is not generous regardless of the window. Many of us own 100s of games on steam..

Again, it's fairly trivial to restore lost progress, so (IMO) getting bent out of shape over it is just petty complaining.

Let's be serious, it's fairly trivial to store few kBs of data per player for more than 3 months. The message is clear: you are not players, you are beta testers. Of course it's fun to start over again, but in the back of the head is a little thought that all your long hard work is gone and can be fixed in 3 minutes by tweaking some local files 😉

I mean I don't want to cheat extra progress in than I got with my character so that means going through and figuring out exactly which missions I completed and editing it in, I also don't remember exactly all of the items I bought so I have to scroll through all of that and figure out what I had bought. It won't take a full day, but it won't take a few minutes either.

By that logic you can just cheat in most games, so why shouldn't all the devs for all your steam games just wipe your progress. It sets a terrible precedent for game devs on how they can treat people who buy their game and even support them through early access doing work for them in testing for bugs etc.
