I've noticed that the fire that is generated by drop ships does not lag my AMD card at all. But the known issue of fire with amd video cards. Why dont you use the same fire that you use from the drop ships. That could solve the problem.

I found that I got good results by using the "Disable Player Light Shadows" -> ON. You Mileage may vary though.
