My friend and I were playing a mission together and he was the host. After completing the mission, we both headed back to the drop pods and he left first. Well, the game crashed and now it will not let me resume the game. Is there a way to get paid and retrieve the items on my character?

Correct. Host has to leave last in p2p games. You can leverage insurance to get your items back; you already got paid (as soon as "Mission: Completed" is reached, the reward is credited to the account). This link, steps A and D: #how-to-icarus message
