I went to "Resume" a mission after a patch and it wasnt available; and, all my gear was still "on the drop" (it said). I did not leave the planet. I logged off, Quit to desktop, came back 2 days later to "Resume" and resume was greyed out, and my equipment was still on the drop.

Did you attempt to LOAD it?
RESUME becomes greyed out if your char joins another session whilst it is already in something, like say an Open World.
Clicking LOAD will drop you back in as if you'd clicked RESUME.
