If there is a monster on the other side of a barrier, you can right click it and you character with path to be in range and have "line of site" through barrier. The monster will not be visible due to obstruction, however you will still auto attack it and the monster will walk through the barrier to you.

This assumes a ranged character, and there is a way to get line of site around the barrier to start it off.
