Hey everyone! I'm Knish. Some of you might know me from my time at Aurora Intel. I recently built a side project for fun that I thought this community would enjoy.
It's called Keel, a daily ship guessing game. Think Wordle, but you're identifying warships from their silhouettes. Each day features a new ship across multiple modes: modern warships, WW2, Cold War, aircraft carriers, submarines, and small craft (patrol vessels/cutters).

You get progressive clues (specs, operational context, trivia) and try to nail the ID in as few attempts as possible.

Love this (got lucky on my first puzzle)....As someone with a focus in maritime osint, I see this as helpful, interesting, and a bit fun!

Initial user experience is quite positive. Doesn't try to do too much....does what it does well, and great niche (niche in a good way) concept.

This is awesome! I love gamification of things like this, really tests your skills. Can't wait to become an expert in ship spotting.

I think Ineed to learn more before I'm able to play this. I know maybe four ship classes and none of them are recognised. 🤣
O wait, auto-complete triggered another memory. I don't think I could have actively named that one, though.

It did help that I was giving joke answers, but when I tried to answer ||Admiral Kuznetszov|| this was one of two options that popped up when I got as far as typing ||Admiral||. That immediately made me realise what the answer was.
You'd think there'd be a lot more possibilities at that point, actually...

you don't submit you just type it in and it's right you'll get a drop-down you can tap

Doesn't work for me using any browser on the Mac (Firefox, Chrome, Safari). I'm unable to submit a guess.

Oh, I see. I was trying to copy/paste in a name of a ship class. You have to actually type it. And if the ship class you are typing doesn't exist, then you can't submit that as a response.

So, step one is to guess the type of the ship, and then when you type that in you get a list of suggestions for that ship type.

You might want to handle the case where someone tries to copy/paste into the submission box. Maybe, you can catch that event and display a message that copy/paste is disabled.

I made some changes to the game.

  1. Switched out Carriers for Amphibious. A much larger category with more interesting options
  2. Added more options for sharing your wins. Try it out!

Lol so I don't know anything about warships and just want to try this out. I went to just type in ||guess|| and ended up trying the only thing that popped up and got it loldog loldog

Hey everyone, Knish here with some updates.

Thank you to everyone who's been playing Keel. The feedback has been great.

I built two more games!

plane_F15 **Tally: **Aircraft identification. You get a silhouette and 5 guesses. Each wrong answer reveals a new clue: specs, operational history, trivia, then a photo. Four modes: modern military, WW2, commercial airliners, and golden age aviation.

🗣️ **Babel: **Language identification. You hear a ~30-second audio clip in a mystery language, then click the country on a world map where the language is spoken. Three lives. 94 languages to find. Difficulty increases as you go, from Spanish and French up to regional and endangered languages.

Adore the language one. Particularly like the phone call esque recordings and the countdown- adds to the tension. It might be helpful on the initial round to have countries labelled and then remove them to add to the difficulty or as the regional dialects increase adding labels.
