#OneDrive

And OneDrive is the worst of them all.
I hate how intentionally hard it is to avoid. I don't need two identical looking folders called "Documents"
No, I'm not gonna pay you 99€ a year. I already have three other cloud drives. Which I installed. Intentionally.
And how often are you gonna ask anyways?
If my PC was a professional working environment, OneDrive would be called into HR for harrassment.
They're literally asking me if I'm single...
If people would find OneDrive funny, there would be jokes about it like the ones where someone's calling you about your car's extended warranty
Never experienced them asking “plz use me” though there’s so much to install
At least on Google you can do all the shit through their servers instead of downloading
I don't mind google drive. Rarely use it, but hey, at least it allows you to process its content with a server with an A100 GPU. I just downloaded it today on one of my machines that I use more often and was like "whaaa? I don't have it installed yet? How come?"
What can I do with OneDrive except of not find something I'm looking for.
And don't get me started on saving word documents...
And I run GrapheneOS. It's not like I'm a google fanboy by a long stretch.
I replaced my Gmail address with Proton Mail years ago.
But at least Google politely asks before it tries to penetrate my OpSec holes.
True
It's also fun when switching language layouts. OneDrive doesn't get that somehow
And the "keep on this machine" option doesn't seem to work recursively either
omg I never tried that, but I noticed that pattern, because I have different languages set up on different machines... and I was wondering... if I change the language... I mean it looks like they found a way make folder names work in a completely new way where they don't mean s**t anymore... but I don't trust that all the other pieces of the system know that..
Yeah, it used to be a visual change but the underlying folder was documents. But not always it seems
I find it so annoying that microsoft 365 is a subscription service now.
Uni make me use it. Well, uni + co-authors who don't markdown/LaTeX and I'm on *nix
Sysadmin for 1300 windows users...
All in all, it's cheaper for us to run o365 than have the hardware in house
That's how they get you. I just bought the most recent version of Word just to be really sure, and you can tell they're phasing it out.
Yeah, everything going web. Outlook is very much on the chopping block
I think I still have .pst file backups from 2002. What will happen to those? 😆
Not saying the app will go away, but they seem to be removing features to make it on par with outlook on the wev
So your pst will be fine for a bit
Good, I don't want to lose those memories of the early chatroom flirtations and loveletter e-mails of the good old times.
Unlike OneDrive. Nobody loves OneDrive.
True. But I'd argue to extract mails you really want to keep and save them as loose files perhaps. That's a little more readable by other software ;)
That's your problem right there
I know. Really want to move into Linux tbh
But can't be arsed to find something else at the moment or take the pay cut to a more junior position
I don't. I used to be a linux admin and I don't want to be in techbro world anymore, but might have to. Might not be work for me in my field and it is something I am capable of that has jobs. sigh
Yeah that as well. The entire ai push sucks and adds no value in most cases. Can't wait for that bubble to burst properly
I just heard about this other this Microsoft is implementing...
Recall...
I swear 2025 is gonna be the year people switch to Linux as their daily driver.
Recall is taking screenshots every 5 seconds and using Azure AI to tag the pictures with metadata
Whaaaat?
Damn that's already old news, but.... jeez I'm glad there's some watchdogs out there barking up the right tree when things like that are about to be rolled out
Istg I’m on the verge of having a Rasp Pi OS be my daily PC driver at this rate
going this rate, the 5 ain't lookin half bad compared to Win11 performance-wise
Have the 4, and its pretty good for web browsing applications. BRb and ill test with youtube
Hope its one of those "yeet the video quality down" situations
I mean I'll be honest, I'll be paying that extra few Euros for the On/Off switch they put on the 5.
to hell with performance 😆
the kit that i got with the 4 has an on/off switch on the power cord
yeah I have these as well... got some for the Zero W...
UwU
DO NOT USE WITH THE ZERO W
???
seriously the amount of times I rewrote those SD cards...
You CAN use them, IF you have expensive SD cards.
So TLDR: will avoid the Zero W
if you use cheap SD cards, 1/5 times it will fuck your boot sector
oh hell no
ok update: chucked the video to 240p and it seems to work well???
yeah honestly I don't even know what people use the Zero W for... I got it for video playback, like..... switch on the power in the museum, pixies dance, video goes brrrrrr
i DOES do the video playback
Theres some Pwnagotchi stuff with a Pi Zero, but that borders on illegal under certain contexts, so ill avoid that topic alltogether
In other contexts: the Pi 4 is shockingly capable, and if it can handle this one website I need for my current job, ill probably change my daily to that
it works
Pi4 can do h265 decoding right? It is a really nifty powerhouse for the 8 watts it pulls
From what i am reading, it can, just dont expect it to be fast
1080p worked fine. 4K was a little too much ask yes
Personally i use 240p just to make sure theres some breathing room
Hello I hate one drive. I heard this is the place to say so?
Welcome to the club
Out of spite a Raspberry Pi storage system lmfao. But yea, condolances m8
It's not impossible on Linux but easy it aint
I use onedriver, so far it's ok. I mount it as an external drive.
yeah, but syncing was a manual / cron action right?
Not that I remember, but then it has been a while. I try to avoid mounting it at this stage, if at all possible 😉
Last time I tried it was 2 years ago so same :)
Mind you, I might have just put the cronjob and forgotten about it
I did not, I only have backups in there
Are you also using onedriver? ( https://github.com/jstaf/onedriver )
You can also complain about Cortana if you want, but OneDrive is just the worst
Pretty sure Microsoft has killed Cortana now. Which is ironic given she'd have been ideal for the llm pivot
Did Cortana go into rampancy? /j
Cortana is still there, but it'll be eaten by copilot provably
Speaking of Copilot
Microsoft Recall is a mistake. In this video I'll talk about what recall is, why it really shouldn't exist, and what people are saying about it.
What is recall?: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/retrace-your-steps-with-recall-aa03f8a0-a78b-4b3e-b0a1-2eb8ac48701c
Wired: https://www.wired.com/story/microsoft-windows-recall-privilege-es...
Can't wait to turn that off everywhere
Even more reason to stay away from Windows for the time being
One thing though, I think I hate teams and office365 more than drive.
it's all sharepoint in the end
yeah they ended official support for it last year https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/end-of-support-for-cortana-d025b39f-ee5b-4836-a954-0ab646ee1efa
Let me guess - you're forced to use it?
Because I have a hard time deciding but teams and 365 play almost no role at all in my life while drive bugs me every time I want to save a document. In general I'd agree though and hate all of them.
Most universities do 😭
Because of collaborative features also across 365 with other universities.
And cheap + don't need in house expertise on how to actually rn anything.
Can't wait until they get hit with some anti-trust thing too which collapses the entire house of cards
isnt office 365 like word and excel and stuff?
and sharepoint and teams
and powerbi
and eh. Loads of stuff
https://m365maps.com/files/Microsoft-365-E3.htm for what you get for the 'regular' office user license in a big corp
The carcass that's left of it
