Perhaps it may be potentially more effective to address this in a way I actively avoid usually to illustrate the significance of the situation as a whole.

The following article(s) pertain to something current posted less than a day ago but this is overall something that has been occurring for a significant time. Typically I consider this really starting as far back as the 1960s.

CW: Child abuse, death, institutional abuse, torture

https://www.foxcarolina.com/2024/02/07/deputies-investigating-after-student-dies-trails-carolina/

I am also including a link to the daily mail only to illustrate the reach this one, recent story has had.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13059761/NC-wellness-camp-Trails-Carolina-boy-dies-investigation-mystery.html

This is what I have focused on and dedicated my life to addressing starting in a full time capacity over three years ago. The facility, a wilderness camp, mentioned in the above articles is one I have a folder on consisting of nearly 70 GB in just documentation alone and dates as far back as to when it originally opened. This very wilderness program is one I have thoroughly explored rather extensively and part of the nearly 600 other facilities that make up the collection of data.

It was and has been long overdue to properly acknowledge and address this issue. I did so in a way that proved to not only be able to have significant and numerous use cases but was literally ahead of the legislation introduced just last year.

I believe that for many I have discussed or shared this sort of topic with it just did not register because frankly, it seems almost unbelievable. When it does click one usually struggles with understanding that it has been happening and has never been properly addressed, not once.

To pace this I will wait to follow up on the significant role OSINT has played in what I have developed along with why specifically my involvement is incredibly relevant.

What is concerning and stressful for me in posting the update for NYRA is the risk of harassment continuing by a group who has basically taken over the coverage and efforts pertaining to the TTI. Included within this group is someone who is compromised my work, well-being, and ability to successfully continue.

Having only one interaction with them right as the current effort began I shared my experience and tech skill set. Upon mentioning OSINT they responded in a very dismissive manner and said You mean you just google? They had the authority and power at that time to basically spread a narrative akin to what bellingcat experiences being called psyops or a state funded operations. Where this differed is I had no existing support or ability to defend my credibility.

hearty fractal
#

it might be beneficial to establish an introduction and baseline understanding of the TTI as I do this and sort of weave the current event here into that to better illustrate, basically, how we got here and how did this happen.

A CULT, WEAPONIZED BABY JESUS, AND AVERSION THERAPY LEGITIMIZED
-Synanon, the drug rehab center established in California by Chuck Deitrich established some of the core models and practices echoed throughout the industry even to present day. The CEDU programs which later incorporated the usage of LGATs as a therapeutic milieu of sorts. Mel Wasserman founded the CEDU schools and it is argued that the name was due largely to his idolization of the Synanon founder standing for Chuck E. Deitrich University. Wasserman argued CEDU meant something akin to You see You do.
-IFB/Lester Roloff Homes were the religious aspect and often, due to the exemptions allowed by state lobbyists and legislators, were free from oversight entirely especially in states such as Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Mississippi.
-The Mormon/LDS involvement within the TTI is largely attributed to Provo Canyon School founder Dr. D. Eugene Thorne, head of Brigham Young University psychology department. ||He conducted electro-shock and vomiting aversion therapy experiments on admitted homosexual students.|| This is attributed to the Mormon influence on the industry and it was at Provo that staff members would meet and go on to open their own facilities with aggressive marketing tactics and litigious threats. This is where WWASP founders Ken Kay, Karr Farnsworth, and the Lichfield family all met who were later funded by billionaire J. Ralph Atkin.
-Happening simultaneously was the then Reagan administration continuation of the war on drugs which facilitated the federally funded anti-drug programs such as The Seed, KIDS, Straight Inc, and others. Due to being federally funded oversight was possible as was actionable consequences.

ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS OF THE INDUSTRY FACILITATING ITS OPERATION
-Educational Consultants are referral agencies to different boarding schools and can sometimes assist with college prep or addressing specialty programs for areas of study. The more nefarious element is the referral to TTI adjacent programs using Individual Education Plans or IEPs.
-Transport Agencies or Escorts are used to transport youth from the home to the program when parents feel their child would be resistant as this is not a consenting choice. Often arriving during the night and including a group of 2-4 grown men with zip ties or hand cuffs to remove the child from the home. This is a clearly distressing experience usually for both child and parent(s).
-Accrediting Agencies are used as legitimizing facilities by issuing a sort of clearance or approval and tend to give the illusion of being a sound program. Examples are the Joint Commission, CARF, cognia, and others.
-Trade Organizations primarily NATSAP or the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs are a group of members who are founders or administrators of private programs themselves presenting themselves as establishing and overseeing a standard of care despite this not being the case. One founding member, Jan Moss, was questioned during the 2007 Congressional Hearing by Sen. George Miller and Sen. McKeon after it was established how little they address the existing concerns and even excuse them by their deceptive marketing practices.
-Marketing/Referral Agencies facilitate distributing advertising material and newsletters over the industry as to legitimize its existance and image. Initially this was rather limited online but a good example is the Woodbury Reports, Teen Help, and Aspen Education Group. Presently are online directories created by industry groups to improve SEO.

Lifespring is the Large Group Awareness Training (LGAT) Ginni Thomas is disclosing in the video above posted by one of the handful of cult experts I have overlap with, Steve Hassan. LGATs are self-help based seminars and originated by splitting off from Scientology during the Human Potential Movement. Starting with the MLM Holiday Magic its salesforce were required to go through one of its brutal marathon trainings of Mind Dynamics or Leadership Dynamics. After the MLM was shut down several went on to create their own repackaged technology simply recreating the same exercises and experiences with slight changes. These were:

Why is Lifespring relevant to the TTI?
One answer: Resource Realizations and David Gilcrease, former Lifespring trainer and creator of the LGATs used by WWASP facilities on troubled youth ages 12-17. Lifespring and other LGATs only had adult trainings and technically you could leave. Within the TTI you were a minor with no choice.

Elaborating on the concept of triumph over tragedy but lets get into the core of Liftons work and its relevance to not only the TTI but my work and experience directly.

I speak with the acclaimed psychiatrist and my mentor, Robert Jay Lifton, M.D., about his new book, Surviving Our Catastrophes: Resilience and Renewal from Hiroshima to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Lifton’s research on thought reform and the psychology of totalism, specifically his study on “brainwashing” in China, has been widely regarded as groundbr...

#

In the above interview Lifton says specifically his interest in being able to ensure his work is helping young people. That has already happened in a way that he is not yet aware of.

Liftons primary work is covered here https://freedomofmind.com/robert-jay-liftons-eight-criteria-of-thought-reform-brainwashing-mind-control/ and is from Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism: A Study of Brainwashing in China which is based on his research covering ideological totalism in 1956.

CRITERIA FOR THOUGHT REFORM
 Milieu control
 Mystical manipulation (or planned spontaneity)
 The demand for purity
 The cult of confession
 Sacred science
 Loading of the language
 Doctrine over person
 Dispensing of existence

The essay from which this selection is taken is entitled “Cults: Religious Totalism and Civil Liberties.” In it, Lifton frames his comments in relation to what he calls ideological totalism. This was the environment in which Chinese thought reform was practiced, as Lifton came to know of it from the Korean War and afterward.```

Initially I introduced a very recent example of a program with its own horrible legacy leading up to its now 2nd causality. But allow me to come full circle and demonstrate the application of being able to seek truth and understanding even when it is likely the hardest to be able to sift through and effectively analyze.

SPRING RIDGE ACADEMY -- 1996-2023
Facilities responsible for egregious violations that can be found in OSINT sources, although it was immensely difficult and required a fight, usually never face any real repercussions. Take for example the story of Aaron Bacon whose father testified at the 2007 Congressional Hearing that addressed the TTI after the WWASP programs were being exposed by British Television not U.S. Aaron died after being sent to a wilderness program from extreme neglect and abuse and I believe no one even saw jail time. As a matter of fact despite the facility was shut down but the operators successfully relocated in another state.

Spring Ridge Academy tried this albeit unsuccessfully I might add likely due to someone making sure that never happened. How they were shut down in the first place is not a clear cut answer but it certainly has something to do with the lawsuit filed against them in January of 2021, Sweidy vs. Spring Ridge Academy, et al.

After the correspondence above came the 2007 Congressional Hearing addressing the abuse found within private residential treatment programs and the violation of both civil and human rights of youth. An additional hearing on 2008 addressing the industry took place discussing the deceptive marketing tactics and introduced the first of many failed pieces of legislation regarding this industry's practice.

#

There are a few clips I refer to from the hearing however I have to admit that this one is particularly healing for me. This is where then NATSAP administrator Jan Moss is absolutely grilled and held accountable for the absolute failure their organization has assisted in allowing. Why this is significant for me is because of who Jan Moss is.

Let's wrap back around to Spring Ridge Academy, the program sued in 2021 and later closed in 2023 that started as a WWASP offshoot. Founded by Jean Courtney, ex-wife of Lifespring facilitator David Gilcrease (from depositions above) and co-founded by colleague Jan Moss. Jan Moss was a part of the administration that founded and ran Spring Ridge Academy. Her role at NATSAP was as a founding member as well where she represented Spring Ridge Academy in her role.

SPRING RIDGE ACADEMY AND THE ROLE OF OSINT IN ITS CLOSURE
There is significant reason why I refer back to this recent (albeit still ongoing) litigation pertaining to this particular facility. For one it bridges a gap in what many pro-TTI supporters try to maintain distance in affiliation. Spring Ridge Academy ("SRA") is an example of how a facility continues to operate despite allegations and reports of violations, complaints, and even criminal convictions. Along with being directly connected to what even NATSAP itself tries to publicly shun as the "bad apples" in the industry SRA is an example of how this is simply history repeating only with better marketing.

The research that assisted the lawsuit was all done following OSINT methodology and best practices (re: Berkeley Guide) including the FOIA and PRR (public record requests). The only real barrier present was financial however in this case that was not difficult to address.

The complaint is filed by Kimberly Sweidy, a parent of a child who was sent to SRA and kept their through a manipulation of the family court system and the divorced father. This is actually not an uncommon tactic. When the parents are more than able to afford the $10k/month tuition SRA is eager to placate them as much as necessary.

Sorting through previously known TTI sites and orgs with the wayback machine and additional archival tools made presenting the claims possible. Combine this with both the more recent and complete records received by the local Sheriff's department and the state department of Health and Human Services and a foundation for establishing SRA's practices could be created.

Why this is not only a valuable use of OSINT in application but in understanding that process is due to how such an investigation occurred and the circumstances surrounding this.

Survivor wisdom.

I spent almost three years there as a youth from 1999-2002. Entirely self-taught in tech, I learned OSINT to survive until I saw justice.

CREATION OF PRESENT WORK: OSINT, DATABASE SYSTEM, RESULTS ACHIEVED

A little over a year ago I managed to pull the still existing bravery I had and entered Bellingcat's hackathon, the first one I have EVER entered. I felt there was some opportunity to create a tool I had learned would be of massive legal utility regardless of how efficient a law firm may think it is. Those who worked with me on this I am eternally grateful towards.

It is likely that, despite my awareness of how much this user-friendly/accessible tool was needed it wound up covering over the work I spent 2.5 years building.

The IPYT Index (Industry of Programs and Practices for Youth Treatment) aimed to be the very thing that has lacked in collecting and presenting usable data on the TTI.

>>FACILITY DATABASE: SQL/SQLITE SOLUTION FOR RELATIONAL CONNECTIONS
For every facility, past and present, documenting basic data such as address, founder, years open, online presence, and marketing materials. This aims to provide as objective of an overview of the facilities and who runs them as nepotism is alive and well in the TTI. For data such as presenting statistics and spotting correlations a relational database seemed ideal.

>>REFERENCE LIBRARY: NoSQL THAT EXPLORES RECORDS & DOCUMENTATION
Certainly the more easily implemented part and likely where one would start having minimal or limited understanding of the Industry. This acts as a preservation archive, digital media library, congressional/legislative (in)action, and even the very recent SICAA bill.

THE RELEVANCE AND TIMING OF SICAA BILL
As the hackathon previously mentioned had come to a close the introduction of a bill that went beyond the usual scope of TTI reform; to be honest it was a bill centered around...data collection. I suppose when Paris Hilton pushes for legislation people pay attention and none of that surprises me. What does is truly how uninvolved I have been considering what my work accomplishes already and what the bill is defining.

TRACING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL INSPIRATION-1ST PIECE OF RELEVANT LEGISLATION (2008)

Ultimately the work you see coming together was inspired long before any recent legislative efforts despite how eerily similar they may be. It was the legislation drafted after the 1st Congressional Hearing and presented at the 2nd in 2008. Even back then it seemed pretty clear what could be done despite the drafted bill being rather ambitious at 32 pages.

H.R. 5876 - ‘‘Stop Child Abuse in Residential Programs for Teens Act of 2008’
https://drive.proton.me/urls/2AHXBQV1DW#w9l4xobKSmC7

Comparing this to what existed in the marketing realm of the industry it appeared there was a way to make this work: remove the subjective/personal interest found in these marketing websites and simply lay out the facts as they are. Such marketing websites are incredibly easy to find and even easier to prove that it is marketing such sites are aiming to do. Earliest example of this was Struggling Teens run by Lon Woodbury with an archive dating back to 1991. A more current example is All Kinds of Therapy which appears at first glance to be a 3rd party but when listings are paid for by facilities and their administrative staff it simply cannot be objective whatsoever.

Several clips from the 2008 Congressional Hearing address the unexpected pushback received mentioned by the bipartisan support and politicians working on making this achievable. Little did they know that never has it been the case for the TTI to have this sort of oversight enforced and they deliberately want it left up to each state.

Surely you can see why this is a benefit. There is a reason the TTI thrives in states such as Utah, Idaho, Montana, Arizona, North Carolina, Missouri, and several others. The regulation, if existant, is by default incredibly lax.

GAO INVESTIGATIONS
Any sort of investigations or research that I have conducted, while not nearly of the same length and caliber, are ones I hope to uphold the same criteria set forth by the GAO (Government Accountability Office). It was the GAO reports that allowed for such substantial findings to be presented as a part of the Hearings. Of course not everyone was pleased with the reports and the rebuttal by Industry "leader" NATSAP certainly says as much.

There were several other investigations held by the GAO during this time pertaining to several different matters of concern addressed of the Industry. The latest GAO report done in 2022 updates several initial findings as well as proposes a suggestion that is neither new or unheard of by legislators and advocates. Ultimately this is one of the building blocks to establish having data collected and shared with the proper federal work group to better disseminate and develop a proper understanding of the industry at present.

I am not sure the appropriate way to alert those in here of an update but hopefully a post in itself is sufficient.

Today I will be presenting at a Stage Talk (of which I am immensely thankful for the opportunity, I cannot express this enough) about this subject. However the focus is to be on the solution and how OSINT played that role very specifically. That does not mean the material here is no less important; it is, I'd argue, still as important to understand as it answers the the very important, "why?".

Of course I understand that the common denominator for issues addressed here, by Bellingcat, by those in OSINT, is how that adds value. I do not want to fail in addressing the severity of the issue so I encourage you to read through this material and what will be continually added as I have the security to publish such.

To reiterate the way in which I will address this is from the presently available (much has yet to be publicly accessible for the aforementioned reasons) explanation of the following Intelligence Cycle.

#

Further explained, as intended for the general user with no prior understanding of OSINT is what is used and thus was is accepted as submission. Of note is that all current collected data less than 1% was ever user submitted. The data is not something I "own" and I mention this as it was a question posed to me by a fellow survivor some time ago. It is unfortunate that this effort has been so mired by the betrayal of those who usurped the power and authority to make decisions or an egregious lack therefore.

I informed the user that this is simply a centralized collection of information for which the use is to extrapolate data points providing useable information from what has been collected. This data goes back to as far as the 60s from newspaper clippings to early the early internet era of the mid 90s. Their efforts will not go unmentioned as it was significant and valuable to keep alive.

Even moreso the reason for my lack of identity or highlighting my role in some significant way is intentional; this is not about my ego, my need for fame, or a desperate effort to practice moral outrage. This is about providing a solution to a problem that has long needed one and I plan to do such as ethically and as successfully as possible.

I sincerely appreciate this. There are a few things and I might start sharing what has been the roadblocks thus far. Admittedly a lot of it is financial but not where one would expect. Also solving some of that may not require typical finances; at times companies have been down to support and contribute by offering either discounts or prolonged trials.

An example...
I want to make short form videos that comprise different topics but I'd like to not always show the really intense media ( @drifting silo is aware of some of this.) There's a youtube channel called "Horses" that does video essays and supplements with art styles used from Midjourney. This tackles several things 1. efficiency in video creation, 2. a respectful artistic/creative approach in regards to sensitive topics (Horses' channel is a great example of this) and 3. a format that engages an audience and successfully conveys the issue.

I can actually edit videos rather well. My partner agreed to swapping and letting me use his new 4060 since all he does is game. Otherwise I have a beefy PC.

There's also several articles I can write wherein OSINT was used to explore something more specific like linking a lobbying group to being directly a part of the industry themselves and the 501c6 they used as a front to do so without showing their faces...so they thought. (It was all recorded and legit there was a dude in the background picking his nose)

The TTI I speak of, the private, for-profit type, is targeting upper-middle class to upper class. I was kind of in the former but barely. I was also a kid so I didn't really experience what that meant. As soon as I turned 18 I was livin that "hobo lyfe".
Then there's the other side which is the hybrid of foster care/TTI and can affect those who "fall between the cracks" as it were. Often times they will front as a sort of charitable group or "save the children" effort when it is anything but.
The Sequel group of schools is an excellent example of this regarding the death of Cornelius Fredericks.

# dim oracle Ah that makes sense 🙂 Thanks for your answer

There should be a wonky "yarrr" style copy on youtube of a series that aired in the UK called brat camp. One of the seasons covers Turn About Ranch. afaik they still run everything just as you see it in the footage and I guess they had no idea that was still publicly accessible because...interwebz. I'm sure you can figure out what keyterms will result in it but you will get a video thats like, in the corner and at a weird speed.

dim oracle
#

Ahhh, they unironically thought they were doing nothing wrong and were happy to do it in public worryEyes

hearty fractal
#

notice they are specifically wearing red, there is a reason for this. It's easy to spot in the desert. There's also a research article with the title "When You Get There - You Wear Red". It's a rather shaming effect and I think that's certainly intentional.

dim oracle
#

This reminds me of prison in no way at all.

#

(Respectful sarcasm, ofc)

hearty fractal
#

Oh they can put you in orange too...

dim oracle
#

Ugh, fucked.

#

By the way, how do you run your database, I’m no techy but I’m curious.

hearty fractal
#

Think of red as level 1 and orange as level 0. There are numerous parent manuals from different facilities and they all do this. The reasons for why is really screwy.

#

So...few solutions for that. You interested in the directory (state by state facility index) part or the reference library part or both?

dim oracle
#

Both 🙂

dim oracle
hearty fractal
#

So there is an answer mentioned above that I'll see if I can pin

dim oracle
#

Ah, I’m blind, sure.

hearty fractal
#

nah it was brief and I can't pin so let me start here:

I see, I saw that you were talking on db's and I though that you were coding some variables to do some sort of analysis, my bad 😅

#

By analysis I mean statistical analysis

hearty fractal
#

no worries, i am about to share some of that too. Where I've been stuck is on the implementation of the db. I've only been able to explore what results I get with different utilities and how the data can best be explored. Fortunately I've been able to speak and meet with Simon Willison several times and share my research (even over a year ago) and he told me Datasette would work very well with it.

#

i can DM you some of the CSV/JSON that shows what I started on if you want

gentle sage
#

Sure, I will give it a look, but I have quite a bit on my plate to do something deep into it unless something really stands out on me

hearty fractal

this is for the reference library and is certainly more minimalistic

dim oracle
hearty fractal

that was just a sample to send to someone. or that one time i had an intern...

Which I know is painful and time consuming

Cleaning as in going through stuff and checking spellings and whatnot

hearty fractal

what i wanted to do was have a specific search utility and AI function that is specifically trained on the data put into the reference library, lemme dig up what i picked as ideal for that...

gentle sage
#

I mean, it looks already quite well structured

hearty fractal
gentle sage
#

(Makes sense since that's json)

hearty fractal
#

what i did was i went through all of the research articles (initially i picked 25 to demonstrate) and used GPT to summarize the document and then collect authors, title, pages, size, date of pub, keywords, etc.

#

I wanted all of the research to be accessible through AWS S3 and not just a data dump from a google drive.

#

(this part is easier to explain because I caught onto mongodb/NoSQL much faster)

gentle sage
#

Hmm, that's fine but I fear that GPT could start to include stuff that is not in the documents

#

So it's good to review just in case

thats the plan

I am back around and functional. I'm glad the podcast got the reach that it did. (Gifting subscriptions to things being used in it's development is really the only thing I can direct people towards doing for now so it would just be credit or access to periodicals and such)

#

As @fallow badge has posted theres a lot of use of newspapers.com for things but its a pretty hefty $20/month paying by the month. However that is an insanely rich resource for collecting data on the TTI regarding its history and the more small town presence a lot of these places have.

#

So, I had posted this previously but I will do so again and attempt to summarize the most relevant aspects as it is a 220 page complaint. This is the lawsuit that was filed against the facility I attended. This is fairly public and routinely reposted but I don't think many are able to parse through it so I will do my best. This is where I can start in also how I developed many of the approaches used for investigating the industry as a whole.

SWEIDY VS. SPRING RIDGE ACADEMY ET AL (filed Jan. 21, 2021)
https://drive.proton.me/urls/Z53TAWQV0C#3GPdE2dfDbaD

#

Pgs 1-125 are of the actual complaint. The remainder are Exhibits.

#

Ex. A is the application for enrollment
Ex. B is Parent Challenge, the LGAT seminar created for parents to attend as a part of the program. Students went through this and 2-3 additional seminars however the version of Challenge for students was much more intense and abusive.
Ex. C is the Parent Manual received after enrolling your child in the program
Ex. D is an agreement meant for parents who are divorced or separated

#

The WWASP programs relied upon these seminars to exist and have any kind of model to sell. It's the "therapy" present and the "program" that is to be completed. The first WWASP facility was the Cross Creek programs and is explained here in an archived article from none other than the Woodbury Reports:

#

Below is Jean Courtney who founded Spring Ridge Academy. This is her with ex-husband David Gilcrease at Cross Creek.

#

@elfin swallow do you remember how we met originally? The discord we found each other in because the person who started it didn't know how to run discord?

#

You and I were the "techies" out of everyone we discovered but I was the techie that was also a survivor.

#

The information currently being published about the TTI appears to also, in itself, be incredibly gatekept and continues circling back around to the same people as sources. There is a reason this alarms me: they have been people who either played a direct role in preventing data collection or supported those who did.

The focus on a single facility or group, while this holds merit, isn't what ultimately needs to be happening. Of course here I am focusing on one specifically but this is where I figured out how to then transfer that same process and ensure it was also able to achieve results elsewhere.

It is important that the ENTIRE picture is captured, not spots here and there. There is value in the investigation of individual facilities I think that goes without saying but no one is tackling this from the broad scope in which it needs to be handled. By continually failing to do that the narrative that "its not all programs" thrives and also continues to be the focus.

As I lay this out hopefully those reading can contribute feedback on the best angle to approach this comprehensively. While I will explore specifics to Spring Ridge Academy here and in it's own work that's not what I would want to focus on presenting to a larger audience.

So rad update...
Continuing plan to utilise Datasette (Simon Willison's open source project - https://datasette.io) for the DIRECTORY section of the site. This appears to be a mutual benefit as it helps Simon demonstrate a very effective use case. Introductory material for IPYT can be assisted by the demonstration of this tool.

The REFERENCE LIBRARY will still, at this time, be used in mongodb but Simon has an interest in having it work with Datasette also. So long as someone else is willing to manage that I am down because I hate using SQL/SQLite. (Also the less I'm spread thin obviously the better).

LOTS of previously gathered data collected on programs. It's dated but it's still a thing. Will share here shortly.

I am curious about the role of TV presenters in promoting these services to a mass audience. I recently learned about a 16-year-old getting sent to a rehab program promoted by Dr. Phil (a TV celebrity psychologist who has not been licensed to practice since 2006). The parents thought it was just some kind of tough love, but it turned out to be a Mormon indoctrination camp.

This was the case I worked on, built my work around, and challenged as someone who spent three years there and I did it almost entirely with OSINT methodology.

That case not only achieved a historicial mile marker alone but due to how it was able to yield the outcome it did is being used as an example for other cases.

Those other cases are going to be based off of an OSINT investigative model.

The lawsuit represents a rare legal victory against the multibillion-dollar troubled teen industry, according to attorneys familiar with the issue. Though many lawsuits were filed against residential treatment providers in recent history, most that have succeeded involved a fatality.

#

Courtney, the school’s founder, said in court documents that some of the school’s workshops were modeled after Lifespring, a for-profit “human potential” organization that has received wide criticism from former participants that labeled it a cult and pyramid scheme.```

Lifespring is the LGAT mentioned and is where the strongest and most blatant connection to Scientology can be easily established (this has legal importance). Prior to Lifespring was other similar groups whose founders were initially involved in Scientology to some extent. This involvement was so significant that LRH had the organization and certain members named as a part of it's investigations into "suppressive persons" and that these founders had "stolen tech used in Scientology" passing it off as their own. This isn't particularly inaccurate.

Werner Erhard, Alexander Everett, and John Hanley repackaged exercises and practices from others and from each other with Scientology at the very start of that established foundation. Methods to control, coerce, manipulate, and give a false sense of purpose present in Scientology were duplicated and adjusted to suit the "seminar circuit".

SICAA or the "Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act" passed as was enacted into law December 23, 2024.

SICAA was first introduced on capitol hill April 27th, 2023. This was right after the presentation of work reflecting the contents of the bill was shown to Bellingcat as it related to the Hackathon being held.

Improving data collection is the sole purpose of the Act. Despite multiple efforts to make those involved with SICAA aware of the existing and ongoing development already doing this no response was ever received.

Instead credit is being given almost entirely to Paris Hilton. Hilton and her impact team are fully aware of the existing work.
