No "major" developments in Gaza for the past two weeks except daily massacres from north to south and continued starvation. And reportedly a high number of journalists killed over past 48 hours. https://www.ft.com/content/0291fda4-10f4-4790-92a6-21caf4d9c4da https://x.com/Mahmoud_Bassam8/status/1868366661881110614
People endure extreme food scarcity as looters and IDF attacks on Palestinians guarding convoys choke off supplies
The assassination of five dear colleagues in the last 48 hours will pass just as the assassination of 191 other journalist colleagues before them did, without a real response on the agendas of organizations and journalistic bodies around the world.
We know the list will continue
One of the journalists killed was Mohammed Baalousha, the reporter who broke the story about the abandoned ICU babies in Al-Nasr Hospital last year. (Tbh, I thought he had already been killed, because he was shot by a sniper in Dec 2023, and I never heard followup!) https://fixupx.com/gazanotice/status/1867947221297275181
And Khaled Nabhan was also killed. https://fixupx.com/MiddleEastEye/status/1868683950115217564
“She was the soul of my soul.”
Palestinian grandfather Khaled Nabhan was killed in an Israeli air strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza on Monday.
He became well known after footage of him mourning his granddaughter, who was killed in Gaza in 2023, spread on social media

One of the key questions concerns the day after the raid: Will the IDF allow those tens of thousands of Gazans to return to their homes in Jabalia and its suburbs, even though many of them were destroyed or damaged in the fighting, or will it prevent them from doing so – as it prevented about a million Gazans who were evacuated to the south of the Strip at the height of the maneuver a year ago and have not been allowed to return since, through the Netzarim dismemberment corridor. The answer is that the IDF - subject to the political echelon - is expected to leave the upper, northernmost third of the Gaza Strip as a dismembered and depopulated area. All of this, of course, could change if a hostage deal is signed that changes the current reality in Gaza.
A hint at the political echelon's position can be seen in a tweet this morning from Defense Minister Yisrael Katz. "My position on Gaza is clear. After we defeat Hamas' military and governmental power in Gaza, Israel will have security control over Gaza with full freedom of action, just like in Judea and Samaria," he said. "We will not allow any terrorist organization against Israeli communities and Israeli citizens from Gaza. We will not allow a return to the reality of before October 7."

To "clarify": FEWS, which is a USAID initiative, is being contradicted by US Ambassador to Israel, Jack Lew, who cites Israel's occupation authority over Gaza, COGAT (whose stated numbers are even contradicted by the Israeli government according to Haaretz) and also cites UNRWA despite the Biden administration banning funding to it for the entire year of 2024 for supposed terror ties.

Israel Loosened Its Rules to Bomb Hamas Fighters, Killing Many More Civilians https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/26/world/middleeast/israel-hamas-gaza-bombing.html?unlocked_article_code=1.kU4.L6Ns.3wzZkrRssQDW
By Patrick Kingsley, Natan Odenheimer, Bilal Shbair, Ronen Bergman, John Ismay, Sheera Frenkel and Adam Sella
Surprised by Oct. 7 and fearful of another attack, Israel weakened safeguards meant to protect noncombatants, allowing officers to endanger up to 20 people in each airstrike. One of the deadliest bombardments of the 21st century followed.
"Effective immediately, the order granted mid-ranking Israeli officers the authority to strike thousands of militants and military sites that had never been a priority in previous wars in Gaza. Officers could now pursue not only the senior Hamas commanders, arms depots and rocket launchers that were the focus of earlier campaigns, but also the lowest-ranking fighters.
In each strike, the order said, officers had the authority to risk killing up to 20 civilians.
The order, which has not previously been reported, had no precedent in Israeli military history. Mid-ranking officers had never been given so much leeway to attack so many targets, many of which had lower military significance, at such a high potential civilian cost."
Wasn't this story revealed several months ago? "Not previously reported"
This story from April: https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/
I'm not sure that this covers the entirety of the NYT story
The NYT story is very long and Lavender is mentioned about 3/4 of the way through
The story has an incredibly insidious oversight, it doesn't mention that in this same period Israel openly targetted not just "fighters" as the headline states, but non-combatant members of the political wing of Hamas.

You read super fast! I'd consider any non-combatants "civilians". I'm sorry you didn't find it useful
My job involves a lotta speed reading
Thank you a ton for the free link, it's definitely important reporting and I didn't mean it like that!
You're also quite well versed in the conflict so I probably have to spend a lot more time
A lot of the stuff I'm talking about was posted here early in the conflict i.e IDF tweets and statements from the time announcing strikes targetting specifically Hamas financiers or political members, but that was about a whole year ago.
This thread is an appropriate criticism of the NYT article [not only on the "20 civilians" part]:
https://x.com/owenjonesjourno/status/1872333846651511150
That thread is unfortunately full of a lot of commentary, and seems like part of the "all western media is biased and bad" ecosystem
After work I will compare the 972 and NYT articles side by side and see if I can come up with a summary for the Discord I suppose
My impression of the NYT article may be distorted by the new Haaretz article that refers to the new NYT article, but does not mention +972 articles at all:
https://www.haaretz.co.il/news/politics/2024-12-26/ty-article/.premium/00000194-02c3-dbc1-a3bd-96d759100000
Archive: https://archive.is/BGrCH
Just in case, the two relevant +972 articles:
2023-11-30, "Mass Assassination Factory": https://www.972mag.com/mass-assassination-factory-israel-calculated-bombing-gaza/
2024-04-03, "Lavender": https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/
If I understand correctly the 972 piece is about identifying targets and the NYT is about the criteria when they choose to act upon that information. I do admit I thought "didn't we know that already?" too, though.
However, though it may have been seen before by us, the NYT article will bring it to a larger audience.
There is a lot of info in 972 articles.
From the "Lavender" article:
In an unprecedented move, according to two of the sources, the army also decided during the first weeks of the war that, for every junior Hamas operative that Lavender marked, it was permissible to kill up to 15 or 20 civilians; in the past, the military did not authorize any “collateral damage” during assassinations of low-ranking militants. The sources added that, in the event that the target was a senior Hamas official with the rank of battalion or brigade commander, the army on several occasions authorized the killing of more than 100 civilians in the assassination of a single commander.
....
“Every person who wore a Hamas uniform in the past year or two could be bombed with 20 [civilians killed as] collateral damage, even without special permission,” A. continued. “In practice, the principle of proportionality did not exist.”According to A., this was the policy for most of the time that he served. Only later did the military lower the collateral damage degree. “In this calculation, it could also be 20 children for a junior operative … It really wasn’t like that in the past,” A. explained. Asked about the security rationale behind this policy, A. replied: “Lethality.”
Though these parts I've considered most important in the Lavender article:
“How close does a person have to be to Hamas to be [considered by an AI machine to be] affiliated with the organization?” said one source critical of Lavender’s inaccuracy. “It’s a vague boundary. Is a person who doesn’t receive a salary from Hamas, but helps them with all sorts of things, a Hamas operative? Is someone who was in Hamas in the past, but is no longer there today, a Hamas operative? Each of these features — characteristics that a machine would flag as suspicious — is inaccurate.”
B. said that the reason for this automation was a constant push to generate more targets for assassination. “In a day without targets [whose feature rating was sufficient to authorize a strike], we attacked at a lower threshold. We were constantly being pressured: ‘Bring us more targets.’ They really shouted at us. We finished [killing] our targets very quickly.”
He explained that when lowering the rating threshold of Lavender, it would mark more people as targets for strikes. “At its peak, the system managed to generate 37,000 people as potential human targets,” said B. “But the numbers changed all the time, because it depends on where you set the bar of what a Hamas operative is. There were times when a Hamas operative was defined more broadly, and then the machine started bringing us all kinds of civil defense personnel, police officers, on whom it would be a shame to waste bombs. They help the Hamas government, but they don’t really endanger soldiers.”
“I was bothered by the fact that when Lavender was trained, they used the term ‘Hamas operative’ loosely, and included people who were civil defense workers in the training dataset,” he said.
Oh, and the "Where is daddy?" part.

Okay so after re-reading the 972 articles the differences became pretty clear. The 972 articles emphasize the widening of who is considered "targetable" (eg, the well-covered points of the massive widening of allowable civilian casualties, who in Hamas is considered a priority, etc) and the NYT is talking about who in the Israeli military is now allowed to make that determination. They are two sides of the story - 972 about those who are targeted and NYT about those doing the targeting.
972's articles are long so please correct me if they do indeed specify the ranks of Israeli military allowed to make these decisions. I consistently just saw "army' and "IDF" without mentioning ranks.
I'll reiterate from NYT the information that's not in 972:
"Effective immediately, the order granted mid-ranking Israeli officers the authority to strike thousands of militants and military sites that had never been a priority in previous wars in Gaza. "
"The order, which has not previously been reported, had no precedent in Israeli military history. Mid-ranking officers had never been given so much leeway to attack so many targets, many of which had lower military significance, at such a high potential civilian cost."
Additionally, NYT and 972 cite each other, so this reads to me as less of a "scoop" situation and more "two independent investigations coming to the same conclusion", which is generally regarded as good
(continued, due to post length restrictions)
"Unlike Hamas, which fires rockets indiscriminately at civilian areas, Israel and all Western armies operate under a multilayered oversight system that assesses the legality of planned strikes. Each attack plan is usually meant to be analyzed by a group of officers, which often includes a military lawyer who can advise on whether strikes might be unnecessary or unlawful.
To comply with international law, officers overseeing airstrikes must conclude that the risk of civilian casualties is proportional to the target’s military value, and take all feasible precautions to protect civilian life. But officers exercise significant discretion because the laws of armed conflict are vague about what counts as a feasible precaution or an excessive civilian toll.
After the shock of the Oct. 7 attack, a dozen officers recalled, some Israeli officers involved in the counteroffensive became less stringent about adhering to military protocol. While some commanders tried hard to maintain standards, five senior officers used the same phrase to describe the prevalent mood inside the military: “harbu darbu.”
I didn't see this sort of internal military information about IDF internal analysis in the 972 articles, or the following:
"Under Israeli military protocols, there are four categories of risk for civilian casualties: Level Zero, which forbids soldiers to put any civilians at risk; Level One, which allows up to five civilian deaths; Level Two, which allows up to 10; and Level Three, which allows up to 20 — and became the standard on Oct. 7."
"Authorization from senior commanders was required only if the target was too close to a sensitive site, like a school or health facility, though such strikes were regularly approved too."
I think I'll quit because there's a lot here that 972 didn't cover and that's the only articles I compared because of the backlash. But as I was looking into this I saw that 972 only has a few hundred followers on Bluesky so if you're on there give them a follow

I've found of interest the part of the NYT article about IDF dividing Gaza into 620 sectors and estimating the number of working phones in each to estimate the number of civilians left - given that Israel turned off electricity supply and bombed the power/electrical infra - their estimates might have been very wrong.
The grid that Israel used [uses?] to specify forced displacement orders has exactly 620 sectors in it, the grid geojson with a bunch of extra information had been embedded at least in one of the IDF forced displacement maps published on the idf web site.
I have not looked too much into that, but the data inside the geojson contains population estimates, comments with family/clan names and sizes in those sectors [those comments are cut-off after some number of symbols].
And possibly the most interesting - the date of the last update for each sector/cell. In the geojson that I have [from December 2024], some records had been updated after 7/10, and some others before 7/10.
Another interesting thing - it contains a "manpower_e" field for each sector that sums up to ~30k over all sectors, with more than half of the sectors listing exactly 76. It seems to be a reasonable assumption that the column represents an estimated number of Hamas/militants - if so.. it is a VERY crude estimate both of the total and the distribution.
It is the same data as previously spoken of here by Zionism Observer:
https://x.com/receipts_lol/status/1813253006852599965
And it had been shared at that time with Younis Tirawi.
[Just to be sure, data had not been obtained by hacking - it is just embedded in the web page itself in plain text, so every visit to the page downloads it]

The sound of gunshots at the end of the video are pretty weird.
The video on the screen is so far silent, which is quite typical for surveillance camera footage. The only audio track we get to hear is from the point of the person filming the screen. Right before the shots, there is a whistle and what could be interpreted as the sound of racking the slide and disengaging the safety of a rifle. Did someone add his own practical sound effects to the video?
What makes you think those are gunshot sounds at the end?
sounds like something hitting a metal door, definetly not gunshots. if the TV they are filming had sound on we would have heard the gunfire that is clearly shown in the video

Missed that, yes. A witness report alleged execution. The IDF claims it fired on suspicious vehicles. The apparent detainment along with crushed vehicles and buried bodies may clarify things in favor of the witness account.
The video was already published, your tweet is older
Which video?
To me that looks less than detainment and more like the vehicles being pushed together on one spot by a bulldozer. You would not get that result if the vehicles were still controlled by their occupants. The idf vehicles are also all quite far away. I'd at least expect a tank close by if someone was detained at that spot.
More satellite pics around that date would be interesting.
They could have been bulldozed together after they were detained but I can't recall seeing a reliable source they were actually detained*. The sat imagery is a single snapshot from the day they reported taking fire. The vehicle cluster is also between IDF positions on the road, meaning they either passed the IDF to get there, or the IDF advanced past them
More details on the likely detention:

A Red Crescent official in Gaza said that there was evidence of at least one person being detained and killed, as the body of one of the dead had been found with his hands tied.
Dr Bashar Murad, the Red Crescent’s director of health programmes, said one of the paramedics in the convoy had been on a call to his colleagues at the ambulance station when the attack took place.
“He informed us that he was injured and requested assistance, and that another person was also injured,” Murad said. “A few minutes later, during the call, we heard the sound of Israeli soldiers arriving at the location, speaking in Hebrew. The conversation was about gathering the team, with statements like: ‘Gather them at the wall and bring some restraints to tie them.’ This indicated that a large number of the medical staff were still alive.”

Israeli journalist Meron Rapoport says the strategic aim behind Israel’s creation of its latest corridor in Gaza remains unclear but it could serve several purposes.
“If Israel intends to take full control over Gaza as Netanyahu and Katz are saying, then there is a lot of logic in cutting the Gaza Strip into a few enclaves that will be cut by these corridors,” Rapoport, editor of the Israeli news outlet Local Call, told Al Jazeera.
He made the comments after the establishment of the Morag Corridor in southern Gaza, which has cut off the city of Rafah from the rest of the Strip.
“It will be a little like what’s going on in the West Bank. That’s one possibility. The other is really to start concentrating the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in a very restricted area, such as al-Mawasi on the shore … and start making Gaza almost empty of its people except this area.”
“It’s quite possible that these corridors are the beginning of a long-term Israeli military presence,” Rapoport added.
https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2025-04-09/ty-article-magazine/.premium/israel-preparing-to-turn-rafah-one-fifth-of-gaza-into-part-of-border-buffer-zone/00000196-19e6-d78d-a1de-1dff20590000

The Israeli military is preparing to incorporate the southern Gaza city of Rafah and its surrounding neighborhoods into the buffer zone it is establishing along the border.
The area, located between the Philadelphi route to the south and the Morag route to the north, was home to around 200,000 Palestinians before the war. In recent weeks, however, it has been left almost entirely deserted following widespread destruction caused by the Israeli military.
"There's nothing left to destroy in the buffer zone," said a commander who fought for more than 240 days in the Gaza Strip and took part in demolishing structures and clearing operations along the buffer zone and the Netzarim route.
"The entire area is unfit for human habitation. There's no need to send so many soldiers into these places." He and other soldiers voiced deep frustration over the plan to renew operations in these areas.
I don't mean that to be facetious, but I think scholars have agreed for a wile that since the walls that were built around Gaza, the area has technically been similar the Cuban reconcentrado from the 1890s which launched the term concentration camp, specifically for the purpose of the containment of a civilian population nominally to disarm them and avoid guerilla warfare. Also many similarities with other historical concentration camps, including those created by the usa to segregate Indigenous populations that were used as a template for nazi death camps have been previously remarked upon. Whether it can be classed a death camp is the bit that is afaik the only part of this that is still being debated. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate this aticle, but I do not know what the new conclusion is that makes it a must-read?
It’s the audience of the article that matters, +972 Magazine is a site for Israelis and Israel-centric.
News sites like Al Jazeera and the Intercept, as well as others have used the term concentration camp long before.
You mean the fences that Israel and Egypt build on their side of the international border?

On Friday, the WFP said it had distributed the last of its stocks to the approximately 50 kitchens where hundreds of thousands of people line up daily to take food back to their families.
It had already run out of food packages to distribute to families at home, a WFP official said, and bakeries that used to receive WFP flour had run out of fuel weeks ago, leaving them to burn wooden pallets to fire ovens before they were forced to shut down on March 31.
Malnourishment rates, especially among children, have shot up 80 per cent in March, from the previous month, with about 4,000 children identified by UN health agencies as acutely malnourished. Images have spread on social media of gaunt young children being brought to health clinics with visible ribs, distended bellies and other identifiable signs of prolonged hunger.
The WFP is also running out of money to feed the hungry, with a 40 per cent drop in its funding for 2025 because of cuts mandated by the Trump administration in the US.
That leaves about 60mn people worldwide at “imminent risk of losing access to food assistance”, the agency said.

The figures released by the IDF relating to the spoils it has seized during the Gaza war raise questions when compared Israeli claims about the number of Hamas terrorists killed October 7. According to estimates, the IDF killed 20,000 terrorists during the war and took some 7,000 Gazans as security prisoners. However, Israeli forces only seized 2,600 light weapons, indicating that only a small portion of the weapons carried by captured or killed terrorists was confiscated by the IDF.
Article mentions that 3000 light weapons had been seised during 2024 Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

We are appalled and saddened as Abdullah Hammad, who worked with us until 30 June, was killed yesterday in Gaza while trying to collect a bag of flour.
Israeli forces deliberately targeted a group of people waiting for aid trucks, killing at least 16.
I’m in a group chat with other international healthcare workers who have volunteered and worked in Gaza. Multiple people have had baby formula confiscated by the Israeli military as they enter Gaza. These are not isolated incidents, but a systemic policy of genocide.
Rather basic paper trail leading back to US and Israeli intelligence of course:

BCG was originally engaged by Orbis, a Washington-area security contractor, to help with a feasibility study for a new aid operation, according to people familiar with the early pro bono work.
Orbis was preparing the study on behalf of the Tachlith Institute, an Israeli think-tank. BCG was chosen as a consultant, the people said, because of its long-standing relationship with Phil Reilly, an ex-CIA operative who worked for Orbis.
Worth noting that schemes to ethnically cleanse Gaza by the US began in the early months of the war, when Blinken lobbied Egypt to that effect, and appear to be a bipartisan effort.

The US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation designated today as a "women-only" aid distribution day
Thousands of women gathered to receive desperately needed aid. Israeli occupation forces opened fire towards the crowds. At least one woman has been killed so far
UN: equivalent of 6,000 food and medicines trucks cannot enter Gaza. Children die of hunger. 1,000 people killed in food distribution points. EU "agreement" to increase "substantially" aid has proven meaningless. It was just an excuse for some MMSS to refuse any action.

The post from “Green Beret Nap Time” accuses Lt. Col. (R) Tony Aguilar of lying about witnessing war crimes in Gaza, supported by text messages showing he was fired for cause from UG Solutions on June 13, 2025, contradicting his claim of resignation.
Evidence includes a Fluet report and sworn statements from nine contractors, highlighting Aguilar’s unprofessional behavior and lack of proof for his BBC allegations, suggesting a motive of personal gain rather than truth, as no video or contemporaneous reports substantiate his claims.
- Historical context of Green Beret internal disputes, like the 2017 NPR-reported debate over lowered standards, adds credibility to claims of Aguilar’s questionable reputation, with peers alleging he was unfit for command, a view echoed by his military career trajectory away from elite units.

Families of Israeli captives have used the loaded term “holocaust” to describe what their loved ones are going through in Gaza without a ceasefire deal.
That is in reference to the picture of the emaciated soldier that was released from Gaza a couple of days ago. A picture that is very similar to the footage that we have been seeing coming out of Gaza that shows starvation among Palestinian children and adults.
But the families are specifically talking about the captives that are still held by Hamas and not referring at all to the Palestinians who are living exactly the same hardships, if not more, because they are also subjected to daily bombings.
…
US special envoy Steve Witkoff has paid a visit to a protest in Tel Aviv where relatives of Israeli captives held in Gaza are urging the government to strike a deal to bring their loved ones home.

On Monday, 600 former senior Israeli officials wrote an open letter to Donald Trump asking him to pressure the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to end the war in Gaza.
We learnt firstly that those individuals – including a former prime minister, three former heads of the internal security agency, and a trio of former military chiefs of staff – believe that Hamas no longer represents a “strategic threat” to their country.
Trump came in with a mandate to liquidate the Palestinian cause militarily, politically, and culturally. Thr article's conclusion that Trump would have "failed" is absurd.

Al-Sharif, 28, one of the news channel’s most prominent voices in Gaza, was killed alongside reporter Mohammed Qreiqeh, and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) warned last month that it was gravely concerned for Al-Sharif's safety as he was being "targeted by an Israeli military smear campaign” and that the unfounded accusations “represent an effort to manufacture consent to kill Al-Sharif”.
Dr Salmiya added that part of the hospital's emergency department was also damaged. He said that his message was to “stop the war of extermination on Gaza”.
“Protect medical facilities, medical personnel, and journalists, allow medicine and food into Gaza, and open the crossings,” he pleaded.

Haaretz reports on the detailed army plan to use artillery fire to force the population of Gaza city to the south and concentrate them: https://archive.is/1VUuN
"The IDF plans to issue evacuation orders, but many people are expected to remain in the city and seek shelter inside buildings, despite the risk to their lives. Most residents are exhausted from previous displacements, and it has become increasingly difficult to find a place to pitch a tent.
In such cases, the military says its forces are prepared to use artillery at "nearby areas" to encourage residents to leave.
The army plans to concentrate most Gazans in Muwasi, which the IDF has designated a humanitarian zone since the beginning of the war despite the harsh living conditions and numerous strikes there."
It may be a death march, as deprivation in the north has been worse than the south but less reported on overall:
"The size of the displaced population will force the military to prepare reception areas and set up tent cities. But the IDF currently lacks a clear plan for administering the area; no solutions have been presented for food distribution or other essential needs."

What’s happening in the neighborhoods of Al-Zaytoun and Al-Sabra is a clear prelude to advancing toward western Gaza City.

Five journalists and photojournalists were among at least 20 Palestinians killed in southern Gaza on Monday, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said, after the Israeli army struck the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, twice.
The IDF confirmed its forces struck in the area of Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. In a statement it "regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and does not target journalists as such," adding that it acts to "mitigate harm to uninvolved individuals as much as possible while maintaining the safety of IDF troops."
…
Among the journalists killed were Mariam Dagga, a photojournalist who freelanced for The Associated Press, and Hussam al-Masri, a photojournalist for Reuters.
Dagga frequently based herself at Nasser Hospital, most recently reporting on the hospital's doctors struggling to save children from starvation.
The following photographs are a collection of some of the final images captured by the two journalists this month.

The Israel Defense Forces has acknowledged conducting the strikes and says it is investigating. In a statement, the IDF said it “does not target journalists as such.” Unfortunately, we have found the IDF’s willingness and ability to investigate itself in past incidents to rarely result in clarity and action, raising serious questions including whether Israel is deliberately targeting live feeds in order to suppress information.
We hope this probe will be quick, thorough and provide clear answers. These deaths demand urgent and transparent accountability.
The IDF has a duty under international law to protect journalists and civilians and to take all feasible precautions to prevent harm. Striking a hospital, followed by a second strike while journalists and rescuers were responding, raises urgent questions about whether these obligations were upheld. In all, the Committee to Protect Journalists says 197 journalists and media workers have been killed in the region since Oct. 7, 2023, 189 of them Palestinian.

before it gets brought up I should note, because there is misinformation about this: RAF planes are incapable of refuelling Israeli jets. Israeli jets use the boom method, the RAF is fully probe and drogue. these systems are incompatible
I can’t say why those RAF planes were airborne (KC46 is Boom equipped so can if possible), if they were refuelling they were refuelling somebody else. my guess is they may have been ordered into the air in order to stay away from the ground when explosions were happening. but I must stress that this is a guess and I do not have any further information regarding what was airborne then

Free the Palestinian hostages!
The Israeli military launched its ground offensive Monday to occupy Gaza City, which the Netanyahu government says is aimed at rooting out Hamas, Israeli officials said.
…
The Israeli offensive started hours after Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Netanyahu and senior members of his cabinet and while Rubio attended a ceremony of a settler group in a tunnel under the Palestinian village of Silwan in East Jerusalem — a short distance from the al-Aqsa mosque.
- Two Israeli officials said Rubio told Netanyahu that the Trump administration supports the ground operation but wants to see it implemented quickly, ending as soon as possible.
- "Rubio didn't pull the breaks on the ground operation," a senior Israeli official said.
- A U.S. official said the Trump administration is not going to stop Israel and allows it to make its own decision regarding the war in Gaza.
- "It's not Trump's war, it's Bibi's war and he will own whatever happens next," the U.S. official said.

extremely hard condemnation of israeli society's enabling of the ongoing genocide, from 972:
What Israel is doing in Gaza City is not the tragic byproduct of chaotic events on the ground, but a well-calculated act of annihilation, executed in cold blood by “the people’s army” — that is, the fathers, sons, brothers, and neighbors of us Israelis.
How is it that, despite the mounting testimonies from Gaza’s concentration and extermination camps, no mass refusal movement has taken root in Israel? That after two years of this carnage barely a handful of conscientious objectors sit in prison is truly inconceivable.
…
Who are these obedient souls who keep this system running? How can a society so deeply fractured … unite only in its willingness to slaughter Palestinians without a moment’s hesitation?
…
The indiscriminate bombing of hospitals, schools, and residential neighborhoods, coupled with this disregard for the lives of Israelis held captive, proves the war’s true aim: the sweeping annihilation of Gaza’s civilian population.
Israel is unleashing a holocaust in Gaza, and it cannot be dismissed as the will of the country’s current fascist leaders alone. … What we are witnessing is the final stage in the nazification of Israeli society.
The urgent task now is to bring this holocaust to an end. But stopping it is only the first step. If Israeli society is ever to return to the fold of humanity, it must undergo a deep process of denazification.

Axios reports that Hamas has agreed to ceasefire and release of all hostages:

BREAKING: Hamas statement in response to Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza:
🚨We appreciate President Trump’s efforts to bring an end to the war
🚨We agree to release all the hostages in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire
🚨We are ready to enter immediately into negotiations to discuss the details
🚨We agree to hand over administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independent/unaffiliated figures
Is this a reiteration of what they promised previously? Because I thought all hostages was already part of the previous ceasefire agreement? PErhaps I missed something

NYT latest:
Hamas said on Friday night that it had agreed to release all of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza as well as the bodies of those who had died, in response to the peace proposal introduced by President Trump earlier this week.
In a statement posted online on Friday night, the armed group said it would release the hostages “according to the exchange formula contained in President Trump’s proposal, and as the field conditions for the exchange are met.”
“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss these details,” the group added.

Under the plan, which Trump unveiled earlier this week alongside Netanyahu, Hamas would release the remaining 48 hostages — around 20 of them believed to be alive, within three days. It would also give up power and disarm.
In return, Israel would halt its offensive and withdraw from much of the territory, release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and allow an influx of humanitarian aid and eventual reconstruction. Plans to relocate much of Gaza’s population to other countries would be shelved.
The territory of some 2 million Palestinians would be placed under international governance, with Trump himself and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair overseeing it. The plan provides no path for eventual reunification with the Israeli-occupied West Bank in a future Palestinian state.
Best I can tell Hamas did a Trump and responded with a list of issues that had to be negotiated and called it "an agreement".
This is the UN take on what has happened, which is clearly saying something far short of "there's a final deal":

He claimed, repeatedly, that virtually every Arab and Muslim nation had endorsed his plan. This was not technically true, as the drafts provided to those countries prior to the White House announcement were substantially edited by Israel before the public roll-out.
Starting around 1pm PT on Saturday, October 4th, LiveNOW from FOX recorded what appear to be some kind of series of flashes in Gaza which their guest, Hal Kempfer referred to some kind of strike. I recognize this is a difficult ask, but does anyone happen to know the general location of these flashes and is aware of any press releases from either Israeli or Palestinian sources of what this could have been?
National security analyst Hal Kempfer joins LiveNOW's Austin Westfall to discuss the latest on the Gaza War.

🚨BREAKING: Israel violates ceasefire, bombs and kills man it claims was “planning” an attack in Gaza
︀︀
︀︀The Israeli army says it carried out a “targeted strike” in the densely populated Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, killing a man it claimed was a member of Saraya al-Quds, the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad. In its statement, the IDF accused the target of “planning to carry out an imminent attack against IDF troops,” but once again provided no evidence for its accusation.
︀︀
︀︀Al Jazeera separately reports that at least six Palestinians have been shot and wounded by Israeli forces in different parts of the Strip since dawn today (Saturday).
︀︀
︀︀Israel continues to justify such strikes, citing a “freedom of action against threats” – the same logic it uses for daily strikes and killings in Lebanon, despite a “ceasefire” in effect there since November 2024.
💥NEW: Statement issued by the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine:
︀︀—
︀︀The occupation army’s claim that members of the Al-Quds Brigades in Nuseirat were preparing yesterday for an imminent operation is a sheer falsehood and fabrication, intended to justify its aggression and its violation of the ceasefire.
︀︀
︀︀We hold the criminal enemy fully responsible for this breach and call on the mediators to assume their responsibilities, honor the commitments of the ceasefire, and compel the enemy army to cease such attacks, which inevitably provoke responses.
︀︀
︀︀While we hold the enemy entirely accountable for this violation, we reaffirm our people’s right to defend themselves and to prevent the enemy from carrying out arbitrary assassinations.

Since the ceasefire began earlier this month, Israeli forces have killed 211 people, it cited the Health Ministry as saying.
In the past 24 hours alone Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip have killed at least 104 people — including 46 children and 20 women — and injured 253 others, among them 78 children, the MSF said, quoting its teams and the ministry.

Israeli airstrike on a vehicle, which killed Palestinian journalists Anas Ghunaim, Abdul Ra’ouf and Shaath Mohammad Qeshta, geolocated in Al-Mughraqa, 31.473447, 34.417956.
Remnants of an Israeli turbojet powered missile/one-way attack drone found after a strike in Gaza City that reportedly killed 4 people, including a woman and 2 children.
This same munition has been used in two strikes on Nasser hospital, and strikes on two different schools.

President Lee Jae-myung issued a message on social media on the 10th regarding allegations of torture of Palestinian children by the Israeli military. The president emphasized, “International humanitarian law must be upheld in any situation, and human dignity must be protected as the utmost priority value.” This is an utterly reasonable action that aligns with universal common sense of humanity. However, the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s response to this is nothing short of shameless impudence. Israel claimed the video in question was ‘fake news’ and issued a highly rude statement asserting that the President of the Republic of Korea had been exploited in terrorist propaganda. Let me precisely define the essence of this situation. The acts currently being perpetrated by Israel in the Gaza Strip constitute ‘genocide (mass slaughter),’ which is strictly prohibited under international law, and are clear crimes against humanity. The war cri…
