With the darkest day of gang violence so far in Sweden in late September 2023 and the government preparing to implement harder measures against it, it seems well founded to have a thread about it.

Due to the risk of this becoming a political/emotional mess, I'd like this discussion to be very dry and strictly focused on OSINT (eg: geolocation, criminal proceedings, individual police operations) and case specific analysis. Not a soapbox for your political agenda or long winded rants/hot takes, whatever they may be. No racism here either, and I believe our moderators are quite experienced with dog whistles/insinuations.

Ulf Kristersson says "everything is on the table" after three people are killed in 12 hours.

It should go without saying, but this is also not a place to vent your racism.

As someone that live in Gothenburg I am getting at least a partial feeling that the politicians suddenly started to bang on the big drums when stuff started to happen in Stockholm
over here at least we have actually seen significant decrease in gang violence of all types, Though going after the family members of gang members have previously been something the gangs have avoided to not get the police after them too forcefully

Didn't notice this untill now
a few things worth noting about the BBC article.
Armed forces chief Micael Byden told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter he was prepared to assist police efforts.
that is a really standard response.
The real question is if the military are even allowed to assist the police
the last time the military assisted the police was at Ådalen in 1931,
and that is still a significant thing
The Ådalen shootings were still a concern in the discussions after the 9/11 events in the US, when military support to the police was considered. Therefore, the subsequent legislation that allowed the military to take part in anti-terrorism actions contained several safeguards. The military must be under command of the police, as they were in Ådalen in 1931, and legislation specifically says that the military cannot be used against demonstrations. There was still concern that these safeguards would not be enough.
I would not be too surprised that IF the military gets requested to actually do policing they could be situations where they refuse to deploy for reasons of public safety.

It also seems like Kristensen have forgotten the Nordic MC wars in the 90s.

On 25 July 1995, two Undertakers members fired a rocket-propelled grenade stolen from a Swedish Army weapons depot at the Overkill clubhouse in northern Helsinki. The missile penetrated the building's walls but failed to explode on impact.
the early hours of 11 April 1996, the Hells Angels' compound in Hasslarp was targeted again, this time with two rockets. The clubhouse was severely damaged, but no-one was injured or killed.

Though that whole thing was a bit of the Three stooges but with with RPGs

Just the top of the iceberg.

Interesting news. Not wholly surprising or novel in history, although I assumed fingers would be pointing towards Turkish intelligence instead of Iran.

But of course that wasn't really politically expedient in the past years.
