@distant slate my environment API branch has its own version of masked functions, where the mask is attached to each value instead of the current selection. Is that still worth pursuing or do you already have a final implementation that works?

Also do you have big changes in flight that might conflict?

no, I'm not confident in the behavior of mine yet, it consistently worsens eval performance so far :/ - curious to see alternatives

it's annoying because it's soo close

but it seems to consistently spring up issues that the same model didn't have before
