Haven't kept up with Earthly, what/how exactly are they pivoting away from CI?
Ah, Lunar
yeah, it seems like they are throwing away the CLI/satellites, etc.
honestly a really puzzling decision. the earthly repo hasn't had a push in 6mo, and it seems like that's not going to change: https://github.com/earthly/earthly/issues/4313
I tried Dagger ~2 years ago and really liked the idea, but went with Earthly because those on my team would have an easier time w/ Earthly syntax
Hey @astral crypt - our marketing site is undergoing some rapid iteration because we have unlocked some interesting agent building use cases.
We've built a new llm primitive that builds upon all the other work we've done with the Dagger engine. This unlocks new use cases but still fully supports CI.
We do not plan to abandon our core CI use case. Its what the majority of our users are using Dagger for and we expect this to continue.
The marketing site will reflect that new reality better in the coming days and weeks.
In the meantime, docs.dagger.io is still the best source of truth for sharing "what is dagger" with other folks on your team ๐
@astral crypt what did you like most about Earthly? Is there anything missing from Dagger in your opinion?
tbh I think Dagger is the better tool, though Earthly was just much more approachable. I didn't go that far into Dagger when I tried it out in the past, but I'm sure I'll have feedback once I migrate some projects over!
and it's good to hear that the llm/ai stuff is building on the existing CI stuff -- definitely gives me more confidence that CI will continue to be supported even if the ai stuff ends up taking priority
Yeah it's really just a shinier sticker to put on the box at the moment. Nothing changes about the core principles. ๐
