I can edit; and I can see my characters echoed back as I edit. But otherwise edit mode is undistinguishable from view mode. It looks like characters magically appearing in view mode, if that makes sense

i wonder if this has anything to do with the runtime environment of the nested dagger shell - like not having terminfo installed or something. or having a $TERM that makes it think 256 colors aren't supported

I tried in the opposite direction, "maybe xterm is too fancy", and set TERM=vt100 🙂

this got me to thinking "does the new dagger shell work in the new dagger shell" - thankfully yes

since terminal just backgrounds it regardless
