#Inflation

It’s not a feature, it’s a thing that happens when people who sell stuff raise prices
It’s basically already in the game if you set up a sufficiently complex market economy
inflation actually happened on the steam n rails server, and it had to be corrected and the economy reset
There isn’t enough literature out there for like
There’s research for combating inflation in real world economies
And then there’s articles about game economies tied to purchasable currency
We need research on economies where the rules of reality and scarcity are different
Where the economic pressures are different
Resets can’t be the only solution to inflation
There’s got to be other countermeasures
Laws, incentives, mechanisms
One of these days I’ll know something
wow
Okay did some research
Inflation can be caused by a mix of
- supply constraints that increase the cost of goods or services
- consumers spending faster than supply can keep up
A little inflation is desired because it encourages growth while making sure currency still has buying power
In the U.S., measures such as wage and price controls were largely unsuccessful, and methods which reduce the amount of currency in circulation are more effective
That of course presumes the existence of a central monitoring body responsible for the currency
On a server that’d require one or more human operators empowered to make fiscal decisions for a virtual economy
