I’m trying to get drivers to work on my Ubuntu 24.04 machine with Linux kernel 6.8.0 and the drivers either crash on boot, or won’t install. Should I downgrade to 22.04 for stability?

I'm on 24.04 LTS running a 3060. My drivers were pretty much good when I ran the installation process. I haven't needed to update them either.

What card are you using? What version of CUDA are you on? What version of Pytorch/Tensorflow/keras are you using?

I noticed that on another machine I have, newer versions of Pytorch didn't play well with the older GPUs (it was a P100 and the torch version was 2.8), so I had to keep the torch version downgraded to a lower revision (i.e. torch 2.3) in order for it to play nice.

I have an Rtx 4080 as for PyTorch, I didn’t even look at versions I just auto downloaded the version for ubuntu. My main issue is even without Cuda installed it hangs on boot, and when I go into recovery and delete the Nvidia drivers it suddenly works again. My apps work when they detect the drivers, it’s just the constant deleting and reinstalling that’s driving me nuts.

Since you’re at that early point, I’d restart the whole process and download a fresh copy of the ISO, write to a USB and reinstall.

A clean install should have you set right out of the box
