#Charcoal Pile Igniter not working

I'm unable to get the charcoal pile igniter to do its thing. I'm in creative with a 3x3 brick base, three layers of oak logs, surrounded by dirt with the igniter at the top center. I've tried triggering it via flint and steel, fire charge, or just letting it sit for 15 seconds or so. No animation for the igniter, and out of about 10 attempts only once did it turn the logs into brittle charcoal (which is even more strange than it not working in the first place...)

Anyway, is there any known issues with this? I had built an 11x11 in my survival world then switched to creative to try to get the basic mechanics on a 3x3, but so far only got that one time that I can't repro.

I successfully used it in one of the recent snapshot builds - gave me 50 charcoal for 27 logs

#

I also used a 3x3 base - which GT version do you use?

novel meadow
#

gt1.4.0 (mc 1.20.1)

try the latest snapshot from github (I think 1073)

thats not working either. I must have a conflicting mod or something, no idea what's going on

formal scaffold
#

can you show a screenshot?

novel meadow
#

not much to show, another one to follow for the top layer

formal scaffold
#

and you also covered the top with dirt with the igniter in the middle?

novel meadow

and the bottom layer are mincraft:bricks ?

yessir (jade\wthit disable in the interest of reducing potential conflicts, but yes, they're vanilla bricks 3x3 at the base)

formal scaffold
#

hmmmm - very strange - have you tried other logs?

novel meadow
#

no, in my survival 11x11 build I had a mix of oak and birch (was never an issue in older versions), I'll try birch now...

formal scaffold
#

I did my test with rubber logs

#

I'll test again with oak logs (need to make the bricks first)

novel meadow

same thing (tried rubber instead of birch, same behavior). strangest part is that one time it did work, but can't figure out why. (I suspect the GT igniter has always been weird, most packs I've played in the past preferred the Forestry version, but no joy on 1.20.1 for Forestry)

did you build it across a chunk border?

novel meadow
#

nope, dead center of the chunk (as a rule, avoiding multiblocks over chunks)

#

im not supposed to be using stripped logs or something right, just regular old logs?

#

like so, but no gaps\air inside

formal scaffold
#

works

#

3x3 bricks, 3 layers of 3x3 oak logs, add 3x3 dirt on the outside, 8 dirt on top, ignore in the middle, right click with flint and steel => short fire and it goes out => JADE shows progress bar (127s)

#

do you have fire tick disabled in the game rules?

novel meadow
#

fire tick disabled... gimmie a min to look into that not familiar with it (otherwise everything else just as you described, even making sure to put igniter last)

formal scaffold
#

/gamerule doFireTick

#

I place the ignore on the logs then placed the last 8 dirt

#

JADE changed from structure incomplete to formed

novel meadow
#

and doFireTick should be T\F?

#

(I'll need a few min to enable jade and reboot)

formal scaffold
#

default is true (fire can spread)

novel meadow
#

well i'll be damned...

jade showing struct status and progress now... still no anim, but... it's working

formal scaffold
#

yeah, no animation and no smoke 😦

novel meadow
#

problem now is I can't use Jade in my survival version 😦 but that's fine, I'll find a workaround somehow

#

sorry for the trouble, appreciate the help!

#

(there was a bug with an old AE interface that was crashing using Jade, but I think that was fixed in dev, I can't repro in the snap so, I'll move the snapshot over to my survival world so I can switch back to Jade from WTHIT - maybe I can poke through some code and try for an anim\smoke implementation)

I posted a bugreport for that

fwiw, I'm on GT 1.4.1+p2 in my core build now and still can't get the 11x11 one to work. Jade always says structure incomplete. Might still be an outstanding bug in the size calc, but I didn't go back to find out at what size it starts to break, etc.
