Information about the server, collaborations, and the nonprofit

#

When and why did Biocord start?

Biocord started during the start of COVID in April of 2020. The founder, Ans, felt that there wasn't a community where biology-lovers could hang out, so he created Biocord!

#

What are the goals of the server?

The goals of the server are to provide a community and platform where biology lovers and enthusiasts could gather and talk respectfully about science. We aim to provide a casual environment to bridge the gap between students aiming to become scientists, and scientists already working in the field. We additionally want to be examples of "real world scientists" from all over the globe with different backgrounds, experiences, and identities.

#

What are the goals of the non-profit?

The goal of the non-profit is to provide a supportive base for the server to operate. As a non-profit, Biocord is provided legitimacy and legal accountability that enables other organizations to collaborate with Biocord in events, fundraisers, and sponsorship.

How are decisions made?

Biocord at its highest leadership is comprised of several moderators who vote on server-wide matters using a democracy-style vote. Some decisions are decided using a majority vote, and some decisions are decided only by unanimous votes.

#

What are the different volunteer opportunities?

Almost all of our volunteers operates some sort of event or group on Biocord (e.g. Book Club, Game Nights) or as part of the PR Team (Twitter). If you have skills and time that you'd like to donate to Biocord, we will occasionally post about openings. Otherwise, you can DM @topaz thunder.

How can I become a partner server?

Generally, we are not looking for any new partners at this time. However, if you feel strongly that your server is a good fit for partnering with Biocord, please DM @topaz thunder .
