I’m gonna go against the grain here and suggest that you stay in Canada. I think trying for US jobs makes more sense if you’re Canadian both because of TN but also because you have low downside if things don’t pan out (just stay in Canada as opposed to moving very far away)

#

I’d only go to the US if you’re reasonably confident on the immigration front, which it sounds like no if companies are downgrading your offers

#

I really don’t think Canada and US are very different and the primary reason to move to the US from Canada is for money and opportunity. However, that really depends on what your current position is — if you have a good gig in Canada already and are taking on a lot of risk to go to the US then it’s not worth doing IMO

As a person who has, I don’t think going to the US for masters is a good choice right now. I know tons of people who have no jobs even tho they did mscs in ivy + past internships/experiences. Also you don’t know how job market will look like in 2-3 years. Even if u get a job that sponsors h1b, they are constantly changing h1b rules(adding extra fees, wage level etc) I would personally stay in amazon canada, try to get permanent residency first and then try to relocate to US.

#

Also even getting h1b is not the end but only the beginning since u need to get green card which can take additional 3-5 years. And getting the perm is almost impossible because tech companies do regular layoffs

Stay in Canada brother. Dont take unnecessary risk for money rn

In terms of getting laid off, Canada won’t kick you out until ur work permit expires. On the other hand, US will give you 60 days to find another employer or kick rocks

Once ur eligible for TN, moving to US is gonna be a walk in the park
