Trying for my first ever internship as a Second Year. Advice?

Igu big homie

resume points:

  • good template
  • I think your design team points sound really cool, but the first 3 do not make sense to anybody not initiated with your work (myself included not like i didnt understand but what you actually did im not 100% on). If you can, I would try write them so that it is more understandable to a recruiter or hiring manager that doesn't know your work well but is also communicating the same ideas as the ones you have (it's hard, but just wanted to lyk).
  • if you need more space I would remove the last line of your software job. I personally dont find it too relevant (but i'm just some random hick on the internet 🙃 )
  • for your volunteer job in the first bullet point, you mention system info, installing software, but you dont mention what task it's all for (computer maintenance, tech support, etc). Although the tech is great, the details and context are as if not more important
  • You mention in the second bulletpoint something very similar to the first.
  • your projects are solid and very well written

So I notice you're in Comp Eng and I'm not 100% sure on what the pathways for that degree look like, i can only rlly comment on SWE and Comp Sci major b/c that's what i do and know

#

when you're starting out and you're an underclassman, you're not on the priority to get an internship

#

internships are low key like a probationary period so they can give good people a job and save money

#

so what do you do?

#

in my opnion, the best way to get internships when you're starting out

#

is through your university internship program

#

i am 90% sure your uni has a co-op or internship program

#

especially if you go to a bigger university

#

even if you dont

#

it's the best way

#

any internship experience in SWE is good

#

other than that you should lean on

#

programs for underclassmen

#

and I would also look at local companies and companies that hire from your uni

#

networking never hurt anyone

#

public agencies are solid if your state or city or country has

#

summer jobs

#

ultimately you have to keep applying

#

i did 250 and got my internship

#

you have a good resume

#

on your second point

#

i'm not sure

#

because you are a 2027 grad

#

grad year low key matters more than your standing

#

it's a hard situation tbh

#

so maybe going through your uni is the best move

#

you got this 🫡

Tbh it’s a weird balance it’ll take a few tries imo

Experience is experience. Combining them can be better because after all you get 10 seconds from the recruiter
