#What kind of concerns do you all have
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
ive given 110% hoping for RO but that blew up in my face
why?
your performance was poor?
or market conditions
if it's the latter, you have to be realistic about the env we're in
also invested massive time in projects thinking itd give me edge but i shouldve done lc or got into cp instead
market
yea but i thought if id make myself invaluable id be saved
how stable the company is. If I am joining a smaller company of a few hundred employees, can they maintain growth?
How recent has the company done layoffs?
What sort of technology will I be working on and will I actually be able to work on a system or will I just be fixing bugs?
Will I have a good manager/mentor who can teach me along the way?
For me those are the bigs things I've been worried about before starting full time
^
also rlly value stability now
also ive been asking if a comp is cash flow positive/making profit
i also rigourously check investor details evalute biznis plan etc to see if its not a gimmick etc
i also dont bet against big tech was interviewing for a company with competiors from fb/insta and tiktok and i was like idk about this comp longterm
LIRP no longer a thing so im extra weary esp since this'll be my first ng job and i dont wanna get laid off like how some peeps were
hope this helps
lmk if u need more
Getting placed into the right role is something I am currently concerned about. It's hard to no mention the current market - but I want to start rolling the 'snowball' towards the specialty I find most interesting but with your lack of experience you have little leverage in team-matching, and your ambitions are insecure at best since you don't really have ANY experience in the thing you claim you want to do. What if I start an embedded role and decided distributed systems is more my cup of tea? What if I want to work with ML/AI in the infrastructure side?
Context-switching is a huge expense, and this being in the climate where you have little say in where you get to work, or what you get to do does concern me the most
oh yeah on a related note ive been trying to select for a tech stack i find sparks "joy" in me, as opposed to just choosing whatever is given to me
while i can't be picky in this market, i really hope i get a preferred stack
Another point, I worked in healthcare for a few years under shitty conditions (sometimes literally), and some of my happiest moments at work were always when I was surrounded by really chill people that were easy to work with. I really hope I get a chill team, it makes a huge difference for me
got return offer but to a different team, their entire stack is java
only experience i have is in python (and some cpp from school)
worried that it will be too steep a learning curve and that manager will be dissapointed because i listed java on my resume (took one intro course in java)
Joey how have you been doing 3 years later 🥲
